This is horrible news on so many levels that I'm not quite sure where to begin.

One way or another, LeCroy's carcass is going to find the field more than any of us want to see.

Well, goofy Mike will get more time. Now might be a good time to sign a catcher.

Hopefully rest is the cure to what ails Mauer, cause without him for an extended period of time the team would be in trouble. Fortunately he can DH and it appears that rest is in fact the remedy, thank God they caught it before it became a stress fracture.

One of the concerns for Gardy is middle infield depth with this Machado guy being hurt. I don't know the whole story on Machado other than shoulder surgery for a torn labrum.

We have Castillo, Bartlett, Punto, Rodriguez, Cirillo, and Casilla.

Bartlett and Castillo are the starters
Punto is starting at 3rd
Cirillo could handle it for a couple of days but not a great choice especially at ss.
Casilla was just sent down so he can play everyday

We still have Luis Rodriguez. Why wouldn't he be capable of being the backup middle infielder? He has been doing it here for a year or two right?
I guess I am trying to understand why all of the concern.

I'd like to see Sports Illistrated's prediction accuracy. I could swear over the early 2000's there was an occasion or two where they picked both the Vikings and the Timberwolves to win it all.

The concern over Rodriguez is that he can't handle shortstop. He is a decent option at 2nd or 3rd but is really not a natural SS. If anything should happen to Bartlett they would have to turn to a young and green player in Casilla at the most important position on the field outside of pitcher. He's also a liability at the plate.

They miss 'em as much as they make 'em.

The cover of their 1987 preview featured Cory Snyder/Joe Carter and big words that said "Indian Uprising".

The Indians went on to lose 101 games that year.

I will readily second that motion. But if he doesn't do it now, it will be done later.

Thirded. I think it's a foregone conclusion that either Silva or Ponson will suck so bad that Garza will be pushed into the rotation.

And, if they both suck bad enough, we will also see Perkins.

Musings of Silva's job not being safe definitely paint a more rosy picture of the rotation situation.

Last outing: 3 1/3 innings, 11 hits, 9 runs. Spring ERA: 11.02

Well, if Silva hasn't pitched himself out of the rotation, or off the roster for that matter, I would be surprised.

Its OK to go into spring with a plan and not let what happens affect your decisions too much but this is pretty serious. He is getting shelled.

Silva is brutal. You cant start the season with him in the rotation.

Right now, it looks like if they are going to win it will have to be Santana , Boof and Garza doing the job. What ever else you get from the other 2 is gravy. That's not necessarily bad. Again , no one has 5 quality starters. They won 90+ games last years with only 3 going good at once.
But you have to have 3.

They should have signed a hitter. They are gonna need one.

Better hit the Boofin ball.

This was the trio they relied on down the stretch last year. Silva and Baker were ineffective more than they weren't and Radke was DL'd.

I think these three will be fine, just give them the ball and some Boofin offense.

Oh how could I forget the great .230 hitting corner infielder with toe tapping issues?

Speaking of Cirillo, this Nick Punto injury is kind of flying under the radar, isn't it? I'm listening to today's game, and if you believe Gladden and Gordo (who is the worst baseball announcer ever, btw), odds are that Mauer will be ready to go on opening day, but Punto will not, so I would guess Cirillo will be starting the season at 3rd.

It concerns me a little. I don't know everything there is to know about the guy, but I would have to think that he lacks the range that Punto has at 3rd, if for no other reason than his age.

If Punto cant go, give that kid a shot. I foget his name, Walker or something like that.

Tommy Watkins?

If that's who you're thinking of, I'm going to guess his .107 average this spring will mean Gardy will want to see a little more "seasoning" in the minors.

He had a couple of bright moments in spring training though. He looked ok defensively the couple of times I saw him.

Matt Moses and David Winfree are the only 3B prospects the Twins would even consider. Moses has been a bust, he has some good pop but is awful defensively. Winfree hasn't done anything above AA. 3rd base is going to be manned by Punto and Cirillo for awhile.

What about Glenn Williams? He impressed me during the spring and can handle the glove.

He's hitting .171 and is 29 years old. I doubt he makes the big league squad.
