The first call went against Hill. Singerhouse checked his man just after the Ram had released the puck. Ticky-tacky interference penalty... but we will let Roseau have this one. However, you certainly cannot call Singerhouse a thug.

Lots of pushing and shoving by both teams in this game... usually right in front of Phillippi after he receives a cheap shot.

Girls are holding "Marry Me, Dan Sova" signs. He seems like a nice kid. You can hear him trying to get Stadler to smile for the cameras during the first game introductions. All season Big Dan Sova used his reach and not his size to check the puck and not the body. You have to be a real jerk to get Dan Sova angry.

Offsetting penalties go to Oliver and Sova.

Ten and a half minutes are gone from period one before Hill gets its first power play. Watch Rams #24 start all the way from the top circle... he never sees anything but Casto's back... a perfect check if you want to change somebody's life forever... before Casto goes head first into the boards, #24 puts an elbow between the Pioneer defenseman's shoulder blades to increase the chance of injury.

That's #24 Kostrzewski and the Rams with the first of one of the most thuggish plays of the game.

Two minutes later, Hill's Nick Widing takes an elbow to the head as Rams #21 boards him in front of his own bench. To make this play potentially more dangerous than the one that almost killed Gopher, Tommy Pohl, the Rams open the gate while Widing is getting checked into it.

Thuggish play #2 and first missed call of the game goes to Roseau.

The next call catches Hill's Johnson holding... no tackle... no chance for injury... not even much of a hold... but a hold none the less.

Hill's Zepeda fights off a hook from #9 Knochenmus and clears the zone. If Zepeda were a Ram you might have expected him to take a dive.

Penalty expires as Ness, doing a spin move, locks his skates with Johnson coming out of the box. Roseau fans ask for another penalty. What a joke.

The period ends on an incident which Roseau fans like to rest their case. Hill's Kohls gives Ness a little shove after the whistle.

Kohls chuckles at the comic dive tried as Ness throws both arms back, belly-flopping on the ice instead of just taking a step and staying on his feet.

The Rams get the last laugh though since the refs bought it hook, line and sinker.

The push would not have toppled my two-year-old toddler. Kohls should not have taken his first penalty of the tournament, but he was careful not to take another penalty over the rest of his junior season.

Hill was credited with 2 hits in the first period versus the Rams' 5 (two of which were intended to injure).

Thug label goes to Roseau in the first.

A minute later Tyler Landman is on his knees trying to cover a puck in the Rams' slot. Hill's Ryan Furne drops down to check him off the puck. Some fans ask for an interference call without realizing Landman had the puck.

Oliver avoids a charging or interference call... only because a Hill-Murray Pioneer plays bullfighter, sidestepping the check.

Now six minutes in... Hill's Kelly puts a stick on Tyler Landman... no hooking or pull-down motion... funny that Landman starts his dive before the stick even touches him... Rams get their fourth power play.

Rams' #9 Knochenmus and #21 Koenig combine for several holds, hooks and a trip... all on the same Hill-Murray Cecka/Zepeda breakaway chance.

Valiantly, Dan Cecka stays with the play long enough for the refs to catch one of the Roseau holding infractions.

This penalty puts the Pioneers on the power play for only the second time in this game.

The Rams are given another chance by a Pioneer, delayed penalty, but before the whistle is blown, Rams' #27 Ben Nelson, checking-from-behind, sends Hill's Jeff Westerhaus into the boards behind the goal... gives him an elbowing shot to the head... adds a high-sticking necktie to Jeff's windpipe... then holding him in a headlock, slams Jeff into the ice... head first.

All of that adds up to just one roughing minor penalty on the Rams, only to offset the original delayed penalty.

The 2-minute rough is so far one of this game's three most thuggish, dangerous, intent to injure plays... and all belonging to the Roseau Rams.

Only 5 minutes to go in the second period and we still cannot find one iota of thuggish play coming from the Hill-Murray Pioneers... as claimed by the haters du Nord.

There is a nice centering pass by Kohls.

Yes Hill gets a lot of players from many different towns, but they get all there students from many different towns...
There are 986 kids in grade 7-12 at Hill, 40 are on either the JV or Varsity hockey teams. The percentages of total students and the percentage of hockey players are very close for most towns.

It does seem to cut down the number of casualties but if you would starting buildng shelters, you could get those raw numbers down to zero.

You dont want to have a "fallout shelter" gap.
