I heard the Shattuck goalie for D4 did well...only gave up 1 or 2 and had a lot of shots against. To that point, I heard the puck was in D4's end all day. What I was told was D8 was very nicely balanced....but Beckers and Merchant stood out for the forwards.

beckers didnt stand out to me i mean he had a nice goal end everything but other than that he just runs around and dosnt play good positing out there. but d4 improved on the defensive zone compared to there 12 2 game.

From what I understand, the biggest difference between Game 1 and Game 2 was getting the Shattuck goaltender back. Sounds like he did a really nice job and kept the score from being worse than 8-0. Do you agree or disagree?

defiantly. i totally agree on that one because he played the second half of the game and only let in a few i dont rember how many but he was makeing some big saves for us thats for sure.

D 10 over D3 2-2 (2-0 SO)
D6 over D5 4-3 (OT)

D3 seemed to outplay D10 for most of the game but could not get the puck past Franke. Very intense down to the end. Blake Hallenberg had both D3 goals.

nice to hear how teams are doing...but at the end of the day this is a tryout. any reports on players that are performing well???

i have heard that for District 1, Kendall Bolen had an excellent 2 games, scoring 2x in the second game, while CJ Lachappelle played well also.

I think that everyone who is going to post a game score should also post the top 10 forwards, top 4 defensemen, and the top 2 goaltenders. Good idea? I think it gives us an understanding of the players in each game that have a chance at making the next cut.

I heard the D8 match-up against D6 was won by D8 4-0. Who were the top 5 forwards and top 3 Defensemen on each team?

D2 won the championship? Heard it was 5-2, wasn't there, can't speak to the standouts, but I'm sure the two Forest Lake kids represented us well.

actually it was 5 to 3 and a pretty even game the first half and the second half D10 outplayed D2 but then D2 went up 5-3 and the game was over for D10

bummer for me i was not able to attend. When will the post the next round of players?

Did I hear in the D3, D15 game, that the D15 goalie was pulled with 7minutes left and it was only a 2 goal lead? WOW. Way to get the goalie evaluated. Nice coach.

The players were told they would get a letter in the mail by Wednesday this week informing them of the decisions. I'd be surprised if the was knowledge of the chosen ones before that.

Some pretty good hockey from what seems to be a good group of 94 kids. I thought the game between D8 and D2 on Saturday was a very solid competitive game. Cates, Kautz, Franke, and Olson might be at the top of the goaltender list. Skjei was the best defenseman that I saw, with several of the D2 group being very solid. Pilot also played very well. A strong group of forwards both on the D2 and D8 rosters. I did not get the chance to see D10 or D3 play, would have been fun to play either one of them. D6 never really seemed to play to their perceived ability. Good luck to all those that move on and for those that do not make it, work hard on your game and come back hard for the 16's next year. Many kids that make 15's do not repeat at 16's.

does anyone know how d11 did in the round robin

I don't know about the rest of you, but I heard at least 20 times this weekend people utter "man, I wish this was a team all year" (not from D4).

So let me throw this out there, if kids can develop to this point with association hockey, why do we need AAA in the winter?

Yes, its evident that some skilled players have no clue where they are on the ice, but their skills are still there.

Just about every District out there has 2-3 good lines worth of forwards and 4 solid D. Goaltending all weekend was very good in every game we played. The goalie in our game against the kids from Up' Nort' was great. Easily could have been a 10-1 blowout if this kid doesn't literally stand on his head.

For D2 the kids that I felt stood out the most were
-both goalies, Cates is solid and big. SKoog had struggled early but was a beast when it mattered against D10, if he plays that game, he always give you a chance to win against anyone.
-D Johnson is a no brainer, Click improved every game, can't wait to see him in a few more years in high school, Aspinwall was solid all weekend, Carney does not get beat and is shifty with the puck
-F lavalle Faust line gets up and down the ice. Lavalle extremely strong along the boards, Faust = sniper.
Horton from Tartan, total beast, most physical kid on the ice every game, Montgomery SSM, scored 2 in the final, very smart with the puck
Franklin from Forrest Lake is as good as anyone out there. Major upside potential from this group.

everyone played hard, those 11 are the kids that I think will/should go through from D2.

jancze5, Great post and your point is right on. The race to AAA hockey is a slippery slope that quite a few knuckleheads lust for year round. What these folks fail to realize is that the state of Minnesota would lose its depth literally overnight. I travel around the country quite a bit and have taken in a handful of midget level games around the country and chatted with a number of the parents footing the bill. The cost to play midgets is purely out of site for a lot of these teams. The venues are great but nobody comes out to watch these games. Be careful folks what you wish for. Once again great post!!

That's the best advice in this thread. Well said panther. It's not a sprint, it's more of a marathon.

Too bad they were playing 4 lines... hard to get a flow going...I assume they just want to hook more kids for the cash..

Not advocating more lines, but it should be noted that, at least for D2, D10, D6, & D8, four lines and 6 D are not enough to include all the kids from those districts who are every bit as talented as the 1st and 2nd lines from some of the other districts. It is what it is.

What about Districts 3 and 6?

True..but even then if you have 3 lines only you would have better games...why stop at 4 lines why not 5? It would have been the same..no team getting into a flow...and for what reason? Your first cut you should be able to get to a 3 line team for each district...not everybody can make it.. also the periods were 2 23 minutes vs 3 17s for a High School game. At 1 minute shifts each forward got 11 shifts vs in a HS game w/ 3 lines you would get 17 shifts...a 50% reduction. Not complaining but that was a dissappointing little tourney to watch.
