Fire and Ice wrote:Elliott while I agree with most of what you say on this board, I don't think this is the forum for a Minnesota Hockey official to discuss the decision made by the referees in a State Tournament game no less.

The referees owe no one an apology they made a call and that is that. Referees make bad calls and we live with them, they make good calls and we live with them.
Perhaps I should rephrase this.
All refs get some sort of review after their games at state.
It is not because of this one call. But of course, this was the biggest call of the game (based on what I my information - not what has been said).

And knowing the ref that made the call, if he felt he made a mistake he would apologize. He is a stand-up guy and a good ref.

But as you state refs make good and bad calls and none calls.
But at this level and a majority of games in D16, the refs do a review of the game afterwards.

And with some people on here claiming it may be a 'fishy' call, I feel it is my place to squelch such a rumor and let people know that refs do respond to a level above them.

D16 RIC Dan Dow is at all the games and does report to me.

So the refs are responsible and they are not involved in any conspiracy, as a group or individually.

So as a MNHockey official I beliee I should be available, here and elsewhere, to respond to complaints about MH and D16.

But if you misread it (or more likely I misstated it) then I need to clarify it.

But thanks for your response because I and other MH people need to be held to a degree of responsibility and that should come from membership.
Elliot, I like the way you think and articulate.

Again let me repeat what I said whether you(Elliott) are articulate or not this is not the forum to have a discussion about a penalty shot called either for or against a team. If Parents and Coaches think something is "fishy" too damn bad.

I also know that refs get reviewed at the state tourney but it isn't a public forum for people to judge it is a private review. Not a public forum to complain about calls made or not made.

By the way tell me that District 16 didn't ref the game between DE and MP?

What districts referees are working the state tourney?

What difference would it make if D16 refs did this game?

What districts referees are working the state tourney?
I would have to get the list from Dan Dow, but I believe D16, D12, D11 D15 & D10, perhaps D2 or 3.

This game decided the state tourney...a rematch of the pee wee A title 2yrs ago..Wayzata was probably favored by 5...and no comments. All the comments are on the refs from a previous game? This game here had the wow factor. By the way, the refs f up 50% of the games. They like to make calls to be seen..they by nature are control freaks like cops.
I agree about the game being a WOW. Whether it decided the champion is yet to be seen.

 Puleeze....

A message board is EXACTLY the place for fans to come and voice their opinion, good or bad. If people think, as did the guys calling the came, that the call was bad, then they (and others) have every right to give their opinion on a site such as this. That's what message boards are for!!!

The broadcast didn't come right out and say it, but to anyone listening things sounded fishy.

Explain "fishy".
You know, like the slime in your hands after unhooking that 12 pound northern.

For everyone, I am talking to teh crew that worked that game.
It will not change the outcome, but will give veryone a better idea of what was seen and why the call was made.
And, hopefully, if it was a mistake the ref will learn from it and the Park team can be offered an apology.

But, I can gurantee you that it was not something 'fishy'.

And I know the Park coaches and they will let me know their opinions.
there were three games with penalty shots yesterday, BA, BB1 and PWB. Are you going to be checking in with all those refs and parents and making apologies to make sure everyone is happy, or letting us know what was right and what was not? it's part of the game, it's in the rule book, and it's the ref's descretion. teams win, team lose and that's life. hopefully all these boys are learning life is not perfect and your parents aren't going to be following you around fixing everything that may or may not go your way. or in some cases looking at these posts, maybe some parents will be. great tournament so far with some good games!

No, those games are the responsibility of someone else.
And no, I ma not checking in and letting the parents know whether it was the right call or not.
I am letting the people know on here and those that email and phone me that nothing 'fishy' is going on.
We do check with the refs and they know that we (the refs & the people responsible for them (me and others) want to know how they felt about calls and how it may have appeared from a different perspective so that everyone can come away with the feeling that they did their best.
And the next time they may even do a better job.

Its accountability, which many that post here and many that bellyache at the rink, do not believe there is.

And that is what I am telling those that read this, there is accountability.

Elliott,
As always, Thanks!
Wow both of those scores are suprising. It is so great that MSBN is covering the Championship bracket, but I would sure like to be hearing the other games as well. I know, Get a Life.

As to the "other" topics, I appreciate the information and perspective you provide us though it kind of takes away from the entertainment value of reading the conspiracy theorists.

I know.
Usually, I let it build for a while.

I thought Park would put up a little more of a game, but sometimes the boys come on the ice and sometimes the young men.

The second game I thought would be about over after 1 but good for Highland.

With eng, it was 4-3 with about 3 or 4 to go.
Bemidji scored to make it 4-3 and Wayzata came back a minute or two latter to gain the 2 goal edge.
It was fun to listen to the game.

So the Trojans stuffed the Beavers earlier today?

Bemidji did great and almost won the game. The coaches from Bemidji clearly had their players ready to play Wayzata and came close. Wayzata had just a little more at the end.

sixth goal was an empty net. Bemidji gave them a run for their money... pretty good for a town with what... 30 some kids trying out for the team. Good for them to play tough against the city teams. Good luck tomorrow!
