Mayo has two losses, to Century and JM. That JM loss kills them.

Mayo lost to Century in the Kiwinias tournament, not in a conference game. They still play each other 2 more times; Jan 20 and Feb 12.

The Big Nine went back to every game counts so if you play a team twice then each game is worth 2 points, if you only play once then it is worth 4 points.

scarlethockey: They went back to the old scoring system this year. Every game is two points unless you play each other once then it is for four points.

I'm hoping that West has enough to get by Albert lea tonight. West didn't play all that well v Lourdes on Tuesday, and Albert Lea had a quality win over Century the same night.

West gets the last line change tonight, and that could be a big advantage. West's top line has been scoring a ton, but they actually may be stronger in the defensive end. That'll be important as the Scarlets try to keep an lid on AL forward Eric Carlson.

Mayo 2
SSP 3

Since lakeville North game, Mayo has lost by a combined total of 9 goals on this 7 game losing streak and a total of four goal differential against the 5, 6, and 7th ranked teams in Class A. Now that the tough part of the schedule is over, look for them to be strong the rest of the way out.

It was an impressive showing by Mayo. Sederquest and Whitney were also not available for the game so they were a bit shorthanded. If Mayo can bring this to the conference it should be interesting.

A lot of hype for a Team 4-10.

I was thinking that as well..
Loss made Channel 5 news video w/ Grosso chasing most wins in state over Ike...

Then again, Southern Mn hockey does not get much exposure, so let them enjoy the moment...

You are right guys with Mayo's record. But in this buisness its a marathon not a spint to the finish. You might see that this record means nothing when it comes to section time. That is when it counts guys. Some coaches simply schedule and play for section time and that is it. And Mayo playing the # 3, 5, 7, ranked teams in the state and losing by a total of 4 goals combined should generate some hype as those teams are far better than most teams in the big 9 or Mayo's section for that matter. But for the time being you guys are right losses are losses but let's give it another three weeks then we will see. Mayo will have to change people's minds come Saturday when they continue there conference schedule with JM. JM has had there number for awhile now and if Mayo is playing at the level they think they are it better be a win for them.

Congratulations Lorne, It was a good game with both teams having chances to win. On a side note, I talked to one of the Mayo parents and they told me Trevor Thompson of Owatonna broke his arm last week. That changes my prediction on the 1AA Seedings
1 Lakeville South
2 Lakeville North
3 Century
4 Farmington
5 Mayo
6 John Marshall
7 Owatonna
8 Dodge County
9 Winona

If its true Thompson is out for the season Owatonna may not win a game the rest of the season. That changes my prediction on the 1AA Seedings
1-2 Lakeville North or South
3 Century
4 Farmington
5 Mayo

7 Winona

Just wanted to check. You mean Faribault instead of Farmington right?

Rochester Century hosts Mankato West, West has control of the Big 9 Conference being undefeated in the Conference, but Century is the only team with one loss and has a chance to even it up if they can beat West.

With it being a four point game, the winner takes the driver seat for the conference title, as a win for either team puts them 2 pts ahead of Mayo(in the long run)

scarletthockey: Mayo only has one loss as well. Hockey Hub is wrong. Mayo has only played 4 conference games and is 3-1. They played Owatonna (W) East (W) John Marshall (L) and John Marshall again (W) . Mayo has all conference games remaining on there schedule. West and Mayo play once for 4 points which will be big. And they have Century twice. And don't rule out Albert Lea. This will be an interesting 4 weeks of play.

Didn't Mayo lose to Century 4-2 in December? Or wasn't that a conference game?

Yes they lost to Century in the Kiwinis tourney I think that is where the confusion is. But they also lost to JM in the Kiwanis. Of course both don't count. They have only played 4 conference games and are 3-1.

Those Kiwinias losses don't affect the Big Nine but they will really hurt Mayo come section seeding time. They need to sweep Century or else they will be no better than a 6 seed.
