WASECA-LUVERNE
I realize that this game isn't of much interest to most of you, but I read a lot of these posts on the section 1 thread and enjoy the comments and ideas of its members. I was wondering if any one was at that game and what you thought of it. Here is my game recap and I think that it speaks for itself.
Final Score:
Waseca 6
Luverne 4
Disallowed Goals
Waseca 0
Luverne 2
Shots on Goal
Waseca 25
Luverne 24
Penalties:
Waseca 6
Luverne 19
PP goals:
Waseca 5
Luverne 1
SH goals
Waseca 0
Luverne 1
Oh and don't let me fail to mention that the head coach for Waseca and the head referee for this game are BROTHERS. HMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!! THAT SURE IS STRANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just a little conflict of interest, don't you think.

This to me looks like it is done on overall record. Also looks like sos means nothing. Marshall is ranked the best in the section but has only played the little sisters. I would use let's play hockey or minnhock to have a better handle of it.

Relax, eaglescout.
No one's being dissed.
Was posted more for in-section records than anything.
Fortunately, the top teams all play each other at least once, so there should be plenty of head-to-head arguments when all is said and done.

eaglescout06,
is it because new ulm is down near the basement that you say this? if new ulm's was better would these be more accurate? the game is played on the ice, not in the rankings. do we even need to look at ANY rankings? the head to head games are where it counts.

I think the AL/West game depends on how AL plays. You look at what they've done this year. They dominated Faibault and imploded, then played bad on the road and beat Owatonna barely, dominated JM from start to finish, then let a 3 goal lead slip away and snuck by NU.
West got bombed by New Prague, who looks like a pretty good team and played to OT with JM. They also handled Owatonna, Northfield and Spring Lake Park without much problem.
If AL stays out of the box late in the game they have more depth than West...........but, West's top line may give AL fits. I guess this is why they play the game.
This just in, like last year, Marshall may be the sleeper in the conference and the Big Nine schools need to start giving them much more respect then in previous years..........See Section Semifinal with A.L. last year.
I'll take AL over West 5-4 and Marshall over New Ulm 4-2.

This game is going to come down to who works harder. It goes for every person involved from goalies to coaches to forwards and d-men. AL has a reputation for being the hardest working team in the Section so you know that they will be there to play. Both of these teams know the importance of this game and will be ready. I can't wait to see how it plays out. I'll take west 6-5 in a high scoring game with a lot of end to end action.
Happy Holidays,

Big night in 1A
Tuesday December 19
Albert Lea @ Mankato West
Austin @ Owatonna
Marshall @ New Ulm
Waseca @ Sleepy Eye
Windom @ Luverne
First off I like Owatonna, Waseca, and Windom.
This just in, like last year, Marshall may be the sleeper in the conference and the Big Nine schools need to start giving them much more respect then in previous years..........See Section Semifinal with A.L. last year.
Secondly, that game was a fluke, what does marshall have returning? I take New Ulm in this one 5-3.
Thirdly, the battle for the number one seed. I dont see how AL couldnt come out on top, but yes they do control there own destiny. There problems are road games and scoring. They get a ton of shots but can never but many in. AL has 2 lines that are better than West's best line. I see AL outplaying and outshooting pretty good but score might be a little closer than the way the game is played.

In no way was that game a fluke. Marshall traveled to Albert Lea and tied them before this game. The shots were even and it was an even game all around, then in sections Marshall comes from behind to beat them. Marshall has two returning lines of forward and defense. I have followed them and any of their top 3 lines can play with any line in the section. No matter what, the games will decide it.

AL will handle West much easier than people think. What has West ever done? So they have one decent line...AL's top 2 lines are just as good, and AL will roll 3 lines at them all night and wear them down. If the goaltending holds up, AL has no problem with West.
AL 6 West 3
Marshall 5 New Ulm 3
Owatonna 3 Austin 2
Al West

I would agree with you on your assessment of the AL - West game except for one point. AL very seldom plays three lines. Both Thursday and Friday nights games were skated with only 2 lines. 3rd line seeing very little ice time. I really believe that played into how the AL - NU game was played. AL's first 2 lines were dead from the middle of the 2nd on.

AL/Marshall/NU/Mankato
These 4 (at this age level) have battled neck-and-neck their entire hockey careers. Take my word for it. PWs/Bantams/HS, it hasn't mattered. Tons of close games at every level. No reason to expect any different as this season unfolds.
All 4 work hard. Most of the players respect each other. They have played against and with each other (offseason) for years and years.
There are no "flukes" when these teams play.
Enjoy the battles these 4 will have thru the season.

WEST 3 AL 1
1 to 1 most of game with one coming under 5 in 3rd; then open net at the end
I have a question does anyone know why casanova (sp) didn't play?
Anyway both goalies played outa their minds...shots were 37 to 26 mankato...close game and was fun but the passing and play for Albert Lea was sloppy....they really need to work on that.....
