Saves
Matt Grove-Crookston 9 13 14 4 40
Mark Smith - Park Rapids 15 11 15 3 44

This stat is even more alarming to me than the loss to Kittson Cent. Crox has an absolutely anemic offense and they give up 47 shots to them? This Park team will has a zero % chance at winning this section if they give up that many shots to Crox because if they play like that against Warroad or EGF or Bemidji for that matter they would giving up close to 60 shots to one of those teams. The "Yes it can happen" campaign slogan of Park Rapids should now be "Not going to happen"

Come sections things get crazy...of course you would know nothing about that.....atleast you got to keep the bench toasty for the starters...

I did not get the OT saves.
Hats off to Shanty's crew for what sounded like a great game. Panthers will have to play much, much better to go anywhere come Sections. Don't discount what Crookston did though, they seem to give teams fits.
crookston didn't look like a bad team at all to me....and right now after watching both them and KC is feel that crookston is better and by quite a bit...but i guess that is why they play the games. If I was either of those 2,3 teams in the seeding i would much rather play KC or LOW instead of TRF...mainly because crookston is coached very well and i think their goalie is top 2 or 3 in the section. He played very well tonight against PR.

The Game-

Pr came out and appeared to still be in the kittson game for the first period. Crookston came out with alot of energy, shut PR down, and threw everything at them. I felt only one of their 3 goals in the first period was a weak goal, the other one's were a rebound and another the smith never saw. Lehrke did have a break away and put a nice move on groove, had him beat to the back hand but failed to put it up high enough, puck stayed on the ice and groove made the save.

Pr came out in the second a totally different team, night at day difference, started taking the body and controlled play for most of the second period. I think pr got their first goal somewhere around the 8-9 minute mark and lehrke would add his second and third before the end of the second. Not to mention lehrke also hit a crossbar and a pipe in this period.

The third period was played pretty even...both teams had a few really good chances and both tenders came up big.

I actually thought the penalty call in OT could have went either way, but knapp was sort of on a 2-1 when it happened so....

Pr then would capitalize and the PP. Lehrke few knapp in front....he shot it..groove kicked it out...got his own board and and snuck it in through a fairly big scramble. The crookston coaches were unhappy and though groove had it covered...from their angle it may have looked like he did...but anyone who was behind the net would have seen the puck the while time..groove though he had it covered but he only had about half the puck and knapp picked it out and scored.

If people are considering other scores to help determine their seeds....you gotta look at EGF only beating DL 4-3

good recap sinbomb............

As the fleet pulls back into
the home port, they are
still in tip top shape and
ready for the next raid.

sinbomb touches on two of three points that still make the Pirates a factor for at least one night. 1) They are well coached 2) they are very capable between the pipes.

Yea, Maybe, but EGF outshot them 49 - 16.
Chupka said the goaltender for DL was hot.
That happens sometimes.

And, they always play EGF very tough.
We will see tomorrow night.

The ships stay at home and will attempt to handle the large rough seas of green waves....

you are right...it also happened when pr played dl at home...only beat them 5-3 but i believe the shots were something like 52-21. Same deal, vavrika stood on his head

So.............

With your logic, PR should not be rated so high in the seedings?

the only team that TRULY DESERVES to be ranked ahead of PR is Warroad. TRF shot blanks and EGF shot themselves. End of discussion.

i just threw the DL EGF score out there because so many people have talked about how pr only beat RLF by 2 goals and then 3 goals in their meetings. I personally don't think the score matters too much because if you take a team like PR....they are rarely going to blow anyone out...they just don't have the firepower to do so...and in the red lake falls games..they prolly rolled 3 lines consistantly more so, so lehrke and knapp's line werent out quite as much.

Just for the record....young Mr. Lehrke didn't miss a shift in either of the contests against RLF. In fact I was impressed with his stamina :!:

The Cardinals weren't too bad, either...

When I played nobody took RLF lightly. I hope they get it turned around up there. Anybody know the state of RLF hockey? Where did Coach Kennett go?

Nobody took them lightly? Really? How long ago did you play? Maybe you just meant PR didn't take them lightly.

A "few years" back I remember catching a RLF bantam squad playing with 2 lines. They skated hard and had the endurance. They might surprise you if you really paid attention to some of the smaller towns - instead of spouting off.

Man, you're still giving those cows a rough ride.

actually 3) is something else so pull up a stool and I'll give you and anyone else some insight on how Crookston players have been programmed over the last two decades. In most years, they believe they can beat anyone on a given night. The 07-08 Pirates don't have the psyche or the defeatest baggage often associated with 3 win teams. When they've taken a beat down, it hasn't been from a lack of effort or desire, it has more to do with physical skills/strength. If you look at their scores, some this year and many in the past, they have competed on many nights when they aren't running out the horses other teams have. Now I can't speak first hand for every Crookston squad throughout the years but the ones I have known, have all had the same common denominator. Crookston is not in aw of anyone in 8A because they've been playing these guys since they were 10 years old. Bemidji is just a team who's smallest guy would be our largest, EGF is just Easide, TRF is just turf, and Warroad is just..yes, a place that makes windows and markets them all over the country. "Drop the puck and let's go."

I only give them a tough time because I was up there and lived in that environment. I also know of these Pirate teams you speak of, and I agree with your assessment. Not always the best lookin' players, but they pack a lunch and give it their best night in and night out.

A win's a win. But if the coaches seed I could see them not in the top 5, just like Rogers last year.
