I feel like I sense a slice of HUMBLE PIE

It is early but 3A looks like a fun race this year.

The Favorite
Hutchinson (4-0-0)- Their 11-2 rout over Marshall served notice that this team is scary. They have two solid forward lines. Led by top line of Graf-Cowger- Glaser this team looks like the favorite in Section 3A. Huge match up with New Ulm Friday.

The Contenders
New Ulm (1-1-0)- A puzzling loss to Marshall early but I will go with the odds here they returned everyone from a Section Final team a year ago they will get things going. They are in need of a big win on their home ice vs. Hutch on Friday.

Luverne (4-1-0)- Lot of talent that doesn’t seem to be producing at the moment outside of Smedsrud-Nelson-Verhey not much depth on the Cards team right now. Reading the reports sounds like their D is suspect not a great start to the year but Luverne will be a team no one will overlook in 3A.

LDC (3-1-0)- Have a great core of young players that are growing up this season. They will be dangerous come the end of the year. Should be a fun team to keep an eye on as the season plays out.

Willmar (2-1-0) – This will be a solid team that we play a tough style. They are similar to Marshall but with more talent. They have a big match up with Marshall on Saturday.

Marshall (2-2-0)- Had an up and down week. Played right with Luverne and then beat New Ulm only to get trashed by Hutch. Has another big week again this week Concluding with Willmar on Saturday.

Best of the Rest
Redwood Valley (3-1-0) Young team with a new coach and they seem be having a much more productive year this year.

Morris Benson (1-4-0)- has not gotten off to the start they would have hoped after returning a lot of the same talent from last year most improved team.

Windom (1-3-0) Had struggles with Worthington… YIKES!!

Fairmont (0-3-0) Not seeing a whole lot of progression in this program.

Worthington (0-6-0)- Going to be a very LONG YEAR for the Trojans.

You know the Cards are NOT contenders this year. Cmon trout, give it to us!

Luverne is a contender but will need to find scoring depth.

Hutch has 2 solid scoring lines.

New Ulm has 2 Solid scoring lines.

Will be interesting Luverne has the best top end talent but I think Hutch and New Ulm have more depth.

Its toss up this year and I would not sleep on Willmar or LDC.

Should be a fun year good luck to all teams!

When the kid who was a pillar on the blue line last year comes back, I anticipate the transition game to be immensely better. He's also a very physical presence for a little guy, so that helps also. The future is still bright for this squad. Lots of season and development left. Roll Cards!

Very early to rank the whole section. But one and two are probably luverne and hutch. hutch may have better athletes but not better hockey players. luverne may have lost to SPA but it the experience will pay dividends.

Luverne has the best players on their team that is why they will win section 3. There is not another team in this section with the talent of Toby, Chaz, and Jaxon. You do not need scoring depth in most of single a hockey and that goes especially for southern minnesota. Talent will prevail and Luverne will play in state. After that their depth might come into play like it did last year, but make no mistake, SPA actually has a few lines of good players, New Ulm has a few good players.

I don't see any bashing of SPA. If anything it's pointing out that Luverne lost to a team outside of the top 10, and it's more of a bashing of Luverne.

Disagree with the statement that a few talented players are enough to get to state in class A. I don't doubt that Luverne has three high end talents on their roster, as we sure hear enough about them. Does that mean the rest of the team is a bunch of no talent placeholders? I don't think that could be the case given their youth team performances the last few years and what they return this year. Even players that were not top liners last year hopefully were developed and will contribute on and off the scoreboard this year. Often the top lines cancel each other out with the better teams and the other lines decide outcomes. Balance can get you there or keep you home in March. JMO. I remember a great coach saying once is isn't just the best players, but the RIGHT ones. That was for you Herb (notTonight)!

assuming luverne makes it to state again this year, do you guys think they need to beat totino to get a seed in the tourney or do you think they can lose both the spa and totino game and still get 1 of the seeds this year?

Answering the question regarding your assumption, Luverne wouldn't deserve a seed IMO if they lose both of those games.

And it depends on who makes it.

Barring major upsets section 2 4 7 8, based on today, would be seeds 1-4.
Luverne maybe 5, but I am thinking section 1 would get that or 6.

What was the score of that game? Are you sure it was 11-2? The hub has 12-3 and Ive heard conflicting reports. When I click on Cowgers profile on the hub it says he had 8 goals in that game. Follow the puck has it at 11-3. With Cowger having 4 goals. I think the hub is just doing some whacky stuff with the Hutch results, which isn't a surprise.

Anyone have the skinny on what really happened in that game?

Another big win for Hutch Tonight in Chaska. They keep on winning big.

I know that the hub isn't the most reliable source, but it shows only ten players that have played in all five of chaska's games. Lack of numbers could have something to do with it.
