Jet, we all have seen you lead the Pink Panthers to mulitple wins and many championships, although girls at that level don't need much coaching, I don't believe most AL girls do either

Also, through all the work you have done so far this off-season it's fairly obvious that you wish to be involved in your daughters hockey career... and since Coach Bray isn't going anywhere for a long time... It would be a win-win situation for you to move to AL, coach the girls team, involving yourself further into her life and allowing her to make another trip to state her senior year...think about it!

Sorry to hear of the Falk brothers departure. I know first hand, that they were always very professional and good for the AL girls. You could see the improvements, in the program, under their tenure.

I agree, that the next coach will be walking into a good situation. There is a good environment there. Usually, new coaches walk into a mess or a rebuliding situation. That is not the case there.

All is not well on the family island of Albert Lea. I am sure the Falk boys were pressured out of their coaching positions by RSI, Tigerpower, HOCKEYPUCK2 and the gang. They are just trying to cover up their tracks now. It is hard to coach your cousins anyway. I am sure AL passed some sort of a nepotism policy creating this problem.

Jet they would not hire you anyway. You do not match the gene pool. You should still move to Faribault anyway. I heard your daughter, and Foley put on quite the clinic at Junior fest tryouts. I could see that line now. Christmaseve would get some serious "red light" sunburn.

Cabelas is closer to Faribault than Albert Lea

I believe I dont fall every shift unlike some others. Maybe it was some one from your team. Your colors are orange.

Ok swiss, firstly, orange is not our "colors"- colors refer to more than one and last time I checked every team in the state had AT LEAST two colors

And second, orange isn't one of our multiple colors, try red, white and blue... that tainted milk your school's giving you must cause retinal damage...Jet another reason to move to AL!

Slightly off topic.

I happen to know the Producer of Cities on the Move, a show that airs on KSMQ public TV out of Austin. On May 15th the show will be having a segment on Albert Lea's boys HS coach Roy Nystrom. I've seen some of the raw footage and it's pretty interesting. I encourage anyone with an interest in hockey to tune in and learn a bit about AL's iconic coach.

Does this coaching change in AL change everyone's views on how this section will play out? It might be tough to find another quality coach.

IMHO:

The coaching change is not good thing at all, but most of the girls on this AL team have been playing together on the same teams since they were about 10 years old.

First they had Fornwald, then Falks, and learned alot about hockey from both. But Falks were players, where Clark was a goalie, and the whole team probably matured more under Falks.

What is needed is for all the players on the team to WANT to win every game as a unit, using every ounce of their ability, every minute of every game. AL is too small of a school to have a really "deep" bench.

Sounds really corny, but desire and work ethic is big.

If they can find someone who will drive them as much as Falks, and teach them position, hey will be at the State tournament in 2008 AND 2009.

The decision to succeed is really up to the whole team, all the players at this point.

Regardless of who the new coach is, or whatever has happened, we will be in the State tournament in 2008 and 2009.

No one in the section can beat us no matter what. We will dominate this section.

Albert Lea is the greatest.

wrong blog true- but don't you southern A guys all play these other southern AA teams down there?

I thought Mayo had a decent squad last year - too deep for the rest of the section. Have to be heavy favorites. Lakeville North and South kind of struggled in the Lake last year.

Yep, with the exception of the Lakeville Schools, Farmington and Dodge County all the other schools are in the same conference and play each other a couple times a season.

Don't know much about Lakeville North, but AL saw South play in Austin's Christmas Tourney last season. I think South was handled with relative ease (7-1?) by a strong Austin team. South had a very good young goaltender and I hear their other goalie is just as good.

But, like "T" said, this forum is for Section 1A (Faribo, Albert Lea, Austin, Red Wing, Waseca and Northfield) and as far as section play goes doesn't really have a lot to do with those schools listed.

I wonder if puckhandler has any info on AL's coaching situation, he's usually right on the money with his boy's 1A posts.

Right, RSI, we are in the Big 9 conference, and play alot of those schools, as well as Farmington sometimes.
As far as coaching, I heard there is possibly a woman candidate from the School District staff.

1. How does the "new Albert Lea Nepotism policy" effect this new prospect?

2. Does she really want the pressure of coaching a good team? Anything less than state is a failure. It won't be a surprise if AL goes to state, It will be big news if they do not.

3. How does she handle the back stabbing of the AL parents or A.K.A. the hit squad.

Didn't see any sign of that the last two years............obviously it just takes the right person.

After deeply contemplating AL's "situation" I have come to an ingenious solution! An AL-Austin co-op. Austin would solve their goaltending problem, AL would solve their coaching problem (I'm sure most AL parents would only feel positively for Coach Bray) and AL would also have the leading scorer in Southern Minnesota, plus Jet wouldn't be forced to move.

If five schools in the Metro Area could do it why couldn't two small towns 20 minutes away be able to? Get the ADs on the phone!

I really think you oughta ask the players, and I think I know what the answer would be.

Keep in mind that the AL players have been together as a team for a LONG time and now is their time to MAYBE go to State, if they want it bad enough.

AL needs to get this thing done on their own.....

PS---a coop would probably be forced to go AA anyway...

Don't put too much stock into what falcons has to say, he just makes things up as he goes - just like his brother Zamboni. falcons thinks everybody in AL is somehow related.

Personally, I don't like the idea of cooping with Austin (or anybody) 1 bit, way too much fun to be had with the existing rivalry to just combine the two programs. I'm not sure that would go over real well with the players either, just a hunch. I can see it happening in the future though. Both towns need to find more younger girls to play hockey or we will see an Austin/Albert Lea coop sooner than later.
