Makes you wonder how bare the cupboards will be at EGF? At first glance Scott Oliver would seem the logical choice if he wants the job. That said, Financial planning must be pretty good in EGF; or no goal tending and one returning d might add to changing priorities.

he doesn't seem like that kind of guy to me. Don't feel like he would step down because returning team/players don't look as promising as years past....

Financial planning is a tough living. I tried my hand at it for two years and can fully attest that it can take a ton of your time and energy. And I didn't have a family or any other jobs like being a head coach.

I admit it isn't fair to judge a person without all the information. I'm sure the community of East Grand Forks is happy with two state championships and that Hermantown would have wished Palmiscino wasn't there. We spend a lot of time talking about kids staying home and playing high school hockey. Palmiscino picked up a pretty good opportunity and was surrounded with unbelievable talent. I credit him with handling it with grace and integrity, but there are some kids left who I'm sure would have preferred he stay. I can't speak from first hand knowledge but there are two kids who are choosing their senior year instead of going to the USHL.
I know that it isn't as if he was taking a different job; but I just think it is a bit hypocritical of people to be so harsh on kids leaving and a coach gets a free pass.

You aren't serious when you say a coach is getting a free pass! I would say it is totally different comparing a 17 yr old hs kid to an adult who has numerous responsibilities. I have know idea why he stepped down and maybe some kids are disappointed, which would happen every year, but comparing the two is apples to oranges!

A few words on Palmiscno, coaching changes, and some other speculative stuff:

And FYI, I've heard since posting this that there was definitely no one pressuring Palmiscno out.

Why would there be anyone pressuring him out? Back to back Class A State Champs, probably would be top 5 AA team, etc.

Mike Randolph got fired for a year, someone took out a full-page ad in the paper trashing Tom Saterdalen in midst of the 90s dynasty...never underestimate the power of the vindictive hockey parent. All it takes are a couple who are disgruntled with playing time or some other issue.

There is no indication that the community is pushing him out. That community does not have a history of micromanaging coaches. I'm sure they will find a quality replacement. They have a strong tradition and feeder system and I have no doubt they will remain competitive. Outside Moorhead and until recently Roseau, no team in section 8 can avoid the cyclical nature of talent. EGF has had a run of superior talent and good coaching, that doesn't happen very often.
My point is simply we don't have a problem of asking kids to be dedicated to their school (and EGF kids have worked very hard for their program), and I can't knock anyone for committing more time to their family and work; but it would be nice (in a perfect world) for the kids to have the stability they deserve as well.

The craziest one I heard was when Trebil was attacked by a parent after cutting the man's kid from Holy Angels

What? Where is MV's coach going?
Running away! I've heard the parents are as bad as it gets @ MV... it's a shame.
That surprises me. My son played association there and the parents were great. I can't speak for high school. I'm not in those circles.

I have a pretty good friend who was a head football coach but isn't a teacher, he resigned his coaching position last spring because it was just too much to try and balance his regular job with the time demands coaching has now. The final straw was the summer contact period where the school and parents expectation was he run a camp 4 days a month for June and July unpaid.
Like I said earlier, unless you have an employer willing to pay you and give you the time off for what's become a 6 month a year part time job, you're wealthy enough too be able to afford it, retired, or you have a booster club adding to your income it's going to be harder and harder to keep non teacher coaches for more than a few years at many places.

The new coach is Scott Brokaw, Providence Academy's old coach. I would absolutely love for him to step up and take responsibility for the hockey development of all kids coming up through the association. Lack of youth involvement was one of the common criticisms of the old coach.
Brokaw and Irondale's Adam Schmidt are offering to conduct a weekly skills clinic for the association. MVYHA is due to discuss the proposal at their board meeting Monday night. Both HS coaches and members of the IYHA board will be in attendance. I encourage you to come listen in.

I hope they do it. Mounds View can then start to catch up to the rest of the Associations that provide such training for their players.

I hope you're not being sarcastic.
Roseville
Stillwater
NE Metro
Mahtomedi
St. Paul
all have specialized skills training sessions for their players (O/S, Pro Edge, Bjugstad, etc.) rolled into their winter seasons. I don't even need to leave D2.

First time I heard that. Most people said when he took over that his involvement with the youth was what was missed. One of the old youth board memebers told me the following about his involvement when the old coach resigned...he ran the box during a youth game, started MV youth hockey day, him and HS players skate at youth practices, had HS players working youth tryouts and he was in attendance, brought his HS players to youth games to support the youth team, ran youth STP. Someone told me he even invited a young youth player to a varsity practice to skate with the kids. Maybe this memeber was feeding me a line of bs. If true sounds like he was pretty involved. Maybe most HS coaches are doing way more.

Probably just a different POV. The parents I spoke to lamented a lack of coach mentorship and youth skills training. Also, Coach Thomas and MVYHA apparently tussled over HS freshmen. Admittedly, this is all second hand, as my kid is on the west side of that co-op.
