To bad for the Hastings girls team last night. 14 seconds away from a win. Refs had a tough one, lots of retaliation penalties on both sides and chippiness that went unnoticed. All and all a very entertaining game.
Couldn't agree more about the Marcotte play, she hustled her butt off to save the game on the open netter, I looked up, 42 seconds left! She is probably the cleanest player on their team, great instincts.
I can see Melvin's point about the penalties that WBL takes, wow. Most of the Hastings penalties were in frustration after being dinged around and getting no calls. The defense in front of the WBL net on penalty kills is close to criminal, one Hastings girl looked like a ping pong ball from all the crosschecking. I guess you take what the refs will give you.
Finally just a word about the player who got booted. I have Never seen anything like it in 40 years plus of watching, coaching and playing hockey. The Hastings fans may have been egging her on with laughter at her behavior and taunts of "give her ten" but her actions, not Hastings fans are what got her kicked out. I then saw her mother screaming at a Hastings parent for laughing at her daughter. Easy to see the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. To bad, WBL has a nice skating team.

No need to "name names." Anyone who is familiar with the WBL program knows who you are talking about. There is no place in the game of hockey (boys or girls) for the detestible behavior we witnessed at last night's game. All this player had to do was go to the box after her penalty (which wasn't all that bad) and serve her two minutes. But, no, she had to shoot the puck after the whistle, mouth off to the ref, bang her stick on the glass, slam the door a couple of times, and then mouth off while in the box. She ended up with a double minor, got kicked out by the scorekeeper, and taunted the Hastings fans on her way out. As a WBL parent, I was embarrassed -- my apologies to the Hastings fans. Maybe it's time for the WBL AD to step in ...
On a more positive note, I have to commend Maddie Marcotte for a fabulous defensive play in OT when she stopped a Hastings player from making an open-net shot. It preserved the tie for WBL.
Why would there be an open net shot in OT Did they pull the goalie? I would hope not! or was she just out of Position and it was wide open?
Marcotte defended the open netter with about 1 minute left in regulation. Hastings was up 4-3. WBL scored with about 15 seconds left to tie. No scoring in OT. The crabby WBL gal was entertaining...

Please don't fuel the crabby WBL gal. This was not entertaining, it was embarrassing. It was embarrassing for the players, coaches, parents and community. Is this player adding more positives to the team than negatives? There are many other players that can fill her role and not provide the entertainment.
WBL is going through a bit of a slump the past couple of games. They don't seem to be playing as a team and antics like the one last night certainly don't help. I have confidence that the coaching staff will do the right thing and have the team playing their 'A" game come regions. This may mean making some difficult decisions.........

I misspoke. This great play happened near the end of regulation when WBL had pulled their goalie for six skaters.

Thanks for the kind words about Mudd. She was ill and I kind of told her to suck it up. I'm not the best dad sometimes. People say you're hardest on your own kid. Still not right.
Hats off to Hastings. Loved their enthusiasm before and during the game. Again a team that plays with a lot of heart. Good luck the rest of the year.
Should mention Sam Hanson's great game tying goal.

Edina outshot Minnetonka 25-19 but that wasn't the story of the game. It was either: (1) an extremely boring game if you like offensive hockey; or (2) a great game if you like defensive hockey. A large but very quite crowd watched as there wasn't much action.
Both teams played outstanding defense. There weren't many good scoring opportunities for either team as both defenses kept the great majority of the shooters wide. Minnetonka scored their first goal in the second period when Edina turned it over in their defensive zone and a shot was blocked by an Edina defensive player but bounced right back to the shooter's stick who slapped it in for the score. The second Minnetonka goal was early in the third period on a power play goal scored on a nice tip by the forward. The rest of the game was pretty much spent in the neutral zone. Minnetonka made it tough for Edina to generate any speed through the neutral zone and made their forwards ineffective.
The game wasn't that exciting. There were just 2 minor penalties on Edina and one on Minnetonka

Chaska beats Eden Prairie 3-2 in OT last night.
Great game played by both teams. Seemed like Chaska just wanted it just a bit more!

Maybe a stupid question but was/is she hurt??

Yes C Lacombe was hurt but you can't take away the hard work the rest of the EP team put in. Don't blame a loss on one girl being gone.

I wasn't at all... my favorite team has played Chaska and EP and I know how they both can play... I was just curious...

I would (put the loss on the one player being out)...C. LaCombe is a great player (there's a reason she's signed a D-1 deal and will most likely be All-State and could be a Ms Hockey candidate). Chaska has not faired well this season...I think its very safe to say, that if #10 for EP plays, EP wins. She basically plays at least 50% of the game and is a dominant defenseman...offensively and defensively. If most teams play without that type of player, they probably don't win.

She is a very good 2 way player, she helps keep quality shots down against her team and also very good at moving the puck. and setting up scoring opportunities. she does make a difference.

I also agree one player can make a difference. Especially if it's a player like Christina.

Agreed. She's not only a great player but a great kid and great leader too. Is she ok? I hope she is back soon.

A great game for BSM and Tiana Press. I see that EP tied Hopkins. Its a strange year and no clearly dominant team. It should make for an exciting State Tourney this year.

Very fun game to watch last night if your a part of the EP Nation:
EP 1
Hopkins 1
OT
I think the shots in OT were 13-2 in favor of EP. 32-24 overall, In favor of Ep - both goalies played very strong.. Hopkins outplayed EP in the 1st and I can honestly say it was all EP after that. Nice job girls..! It would have been nice to have Stina back in the line-up but I think she is out for another couple days....The girls really stepped it up...
