last time i checked the USA team lost to a European Team on the big stage about 2 years ago.

I think the girls would have benifited more by playing a tougher HS schedule as well

Competetive? 11-0, 10-0, 17-0? This looks like 1998 all over again. The bigger point is that they're missing at least a week of school (probably more) and their teams are missing them for 2 weeks in the middle of the season so they can skate around working on passing drills against the mighty Swiss. There are two teams who are competitive, period.

And how do you suppose CDH is feeling right now after losing to North Metro and WBL? Or BSM getting swept clean in the Edina tournament?

I'm sure the US team players are expanding their horizons and enjoying themselves immensely. They better be, because they're not playing serious hockey.

The word in Calgary is that this tourney was an atttempt to jump start women's hockey world-wide. With the lopsided scores, not sure if this has succeeded. The promoters of the sport were/are fearful of there not being women's hockey in future Olympics because of lack of teams. It is obvious that every country is light years behind Canada and the U.S. Although Sweden has looked respectable. Regarding the scores, I think in the early years of world tournaments, the old CCCP teams pounded everyone. Every team was definitely playing for second.

It will be interesting to see what the reaction of the team members will be as far as whether the experience was worth it. I would venture a guess that most will feel the experience was worth it.

Semi-Final Game: USA 8, Czech Republic 0

Minnesota high school players did very well. Bemidji's Sarah Erickson was player of the game, and BSM's Kate Bacon chips in two goals:

Sarah Erickson is an awesome hockey player. I am not surprised at all that she is having a great tourney. She is my Ms. Hockey choice. Hopefully the missed games and the underacheiving team doesn't affect that.

The most entertaining and noticeable player on the USA team is Kendal Coyne. She is literally all over the ice; great speed and hockey savvy.

Congrats to the folks who spent hundreds of hours at hundreds of games evaluating players for the Select and National teams and proving they knew what they were doing with their picks.
