Yes, making friends. You must not pay attention to some of the players from opposing teams talking and laughing with each other after games. You learned about character in my last comment, now you can learn about sportsmanship. You don't seem to understand what high school sports are all about. Of course you better give it everything you've got to try to win. What would be the point of playing if you didn't?
The best part of sports is the people you meet from other teams. Are you a player or spectator? You talk like you're still in school. When you're in gym class, do you try to hurt the kids on the other team, or is it good competition with your friends? It's even better beating your friends from other schools. And, those same kids will be friends for life.
I would hope you're just kidding. The last thing EG/ME needs is another goon again this year.

yaaa making friends is a basketball thing... in hockey, everyother team is the enemy... since im a goalie i dont get the chance to flatten people!

What are you talking about when you say, The last thing EG/ME needs is another goon again this year. Who was this goon that played for EG/ME last year?

I won't mention names. I saw a few games last year. Same kid throwing sucker punches away from the play when his team was being pounded on the scoreboard. Got kicked out of one of them.
The kids on the Bears team seem to be good kids. The ones I know anyway. It would be nice to them all put their enegy into playing the game instead of a couple of them head hunting a few kids here and there.
Reply if you want, I'm done with this one.

EG will never be the same since they lost the three Babich brothers. The two twins (Chris and Carl) were some of the best defenseman their senior season.

The reason they didn't work as a team is cause there was nobody else. Without them the team would of been horrible. It's a shame what is happening to iron range hockey.

Chris and Carl were talented hockey players.

With the exception of Mariucci when he's healthy the other two won't be on the first line. Cogger is maybe first line material but i don't think so. Seen him play, he seems like a player that cares more about his statistics than the overall play of the team.
And that one guy on this thread wrote that Cogger will be a leader on this team.

DEFINATELY NOT!!!!!!!!!!

So, I first heard and couldn't believe it until I read it....Eveleth lost to Ely 2-1 IN Eveleth

UNREAL! Good for the Ely Timberwolves!!! I'm willing to bet the Eveleth faithful wasn't too happy! I think the last time Ely beat Eveleth; it has to be late 1980's.
Then to boot, Ely beat Proctor 7-5 in Ely 2 days after beating Eveleth! Good for the Timberwolves and coach Mattila!

After reading some of this thread I really feel bad for the Eveleth program. It sounds like if all these players who have left would've stayed, Eveleth would be a serious contender this year. I wonder what they need to change, is it the coaches? Or do they need to let go of the rich history behind the Hippodrome and build a new rink? I doubt they have the money for such a thing, however.
My dad graduated from Eveleth in 1970 and he told me some stories of what hockey was like back then for the high school team.. Back when the Eveleth vs. Virginia rival was at a much higher level of intensity. He said the away team had to have a police escort to the opposing arena and people used to throw bottles and rocks at the bus the players were in.. Lol, silly iron rangers. Anyways, he said one year Virginia was up like 6-0 and Eveleth came back to win 7-6 and when the kid from Eveleth scored the game winner in OT the pile-up on top of him was so big it broke the kids leg. Where'd that excitement go?!!
I don't know the situation because I'm not personally from the area, but I hope Eveleth's program gets turned around. It's hard to picture a co-op school of Virginia-Eveleth-Cook-Orr-Mesabi East!

Alot earlier someone talked about trevor tracy leaving. That had nothing to do with coaches or the program. He lived in cotten so he was a long way from eveleth and his brother had gone to central. Also Chris and Carl were not team players and faught with carig homala one of the best coaches eveleth has ever had. The only thing Eveleth needs to be competative is a new craig homala and to play like a team. We have lost alot of they lazy and selfish players now and I think this team is now commited to working hard and playing together.

Growing up on the range I have always been a virginia fan who hated the golden bears. I remember seeing many memorable games at the hipp and miners over the years. There use to be a lot of hockey tradition between this fierce rivalry. It is sad to see Eveleth's hockey program go down the tubes. One can only hope that someone turns this program around before it's to late.
