Yes, that was a sad day, on many levels.
But he was fun to watch while we had 'em.

Funny you should ask... I happen to be sitting right at the International Beer Garden at the Bazaar as we speak... they've been open for at least 20 minutes.

Well, being that Fair season is just about upon us, which of the following new food items would you anticipate to be your favorite (they seem to be catering to the pregnant women this year):
- Handmade tater tots (hashbrowns, cheddar, bacon, green onions)
- "Big Fat Bacon" (1/3 lb slice of bacon fried and carmelized with maple syrup)
- "Pig Lickers" (chocolate-covered crisp-fried bacon pieces)
- Foot long pizza on a stick
- "Pickle Pop" (frozen pickle juice in a plastic push-up sleeve)
- Sticky bun burrito (tortilla filled with cinnamon bread pudding covered with caramel sauce)

ill pass on all of it
with the new footlong pronto pup from last year, my arteries will be clogged already
and a good 64oz of fries help too
speaking of fairs, is anyone going to Irish Fair this weekend? Flogging Molly play Friday and Saturday at about 8:30
and its free!

Again, at the risk of becomming too political in here, you have to wonder... Could we trust a man to run the county who would make such an egregious
error? This is blasphemy. C'mon Johnny... get it together buddy.
Although, to be fair, the Post reporter herself commited a faux pas that every Minnesotan would know when she said "visiting a Pronto Pup shack this afternoon to sample a corn dog." They're completely different, ditz. For the love of crepes... what's the matter with people!?

The Big Fat Bacon and the Sticky Bun Burrito have my interest.
but I'm afraid that I will look like these fair goers.
Love the T-shirt!

So who's been there, what's new this year, and who's going when?

Was there last Saturday night with the whole family. I could never find the bread pudding burrito? where is it? I might have to go back this weekend just to have one.
stuck to the old favorites like the fries and the corn (it just tastes better there) and the onion, although we like the blooming onion better and that booth is gone. the steak sandwich is a big hit with the oldest. the gator on a stick for the middle one (anything for attention), the youngest just wanted to see the boats (think his dad put him up to it).
I sit out the needle ride (Mr. D and the boys still like it) and go to the food building for their cheese curds...stood outside with some fellow hockey moms and wondered who was in the crowd screaming for the backstreet boys??? girls today wouldn't know who they are, women our age wouldn't still scream for the backstreet boys would they??? never did figure it out, even beer couldn't explain that one.. When I was growing up my Mom always took us kids to concerts at the fair. We saw Donnie Osmond, the Brady Bunch, Alabama, and a bunch of others. I even went with her to see Julio Iglesias--can't beat an outdoor concert but I would draw the line at the backstreet boys.
You are telling me there is a difference between corn dogs and pronto pups? My best friend's grandpa invented the process but I think it's just a patent thing that makes someone else use a different name. I think they all use the same batter. While I was in college I spent some time making and selling something that was a corn dog everywhere else, but a pronto pup at the state fair.

Mrs. Govs and I took the future Trojans
(save the jokes... I didn't nickname the teams) yesterday while the rest of you were misbehaving in here

. The kids (who participate in
soccer,
football and
cross country) were all complaining about
sore legs about an hour into the trip while their "fluffy" out of shape, older parents were having no trouble, so the day was kind of a bust. In between all of the whining, we did manage to sample a couple of new food items.... the "Pig Lickers" (chocolate covered bacon), and the "Big Fat Bacon". Neither were horrible, but personally, I could take or leave both of them. Mrs. Govs, on the other hand, wouldn't shut up about how great the "Big Fat Bacon" was... she's a big fan. Per usual, the Walleye Cakes were my big reason for going... tasty as always.
She also wanted to get at the "Sticky Bun Burrito", Dmom, but because our outing was cut a little short, we didn't get to try it. For future reference, it's at Tejas which is inside the Garden on the corner of Dan Patch & Underwood. Our plan is to go back out there on Saturday morning (minus the rugrats) and give it a go.
Beyond that, we didn't see much. I was personally hoping to give the new Bazaar beer garden a trial run, but didn't make it. Maybe Saturday.
