I should have clarified a little better here. Kishel is a huge loss for the Boys in Blue. But he couldn't carry the D on his back for a full game, he's only one player and needed to take a break once in awhile. Also, he was offensive minded which left his partner alone at the line once in while. Grivette handled it pretty good.

With Grivette in his 4th varsity year as a Junior and Villa returning, and Dahl in his second year at Varsity, They should step up their protection at the line. And, these kids have a tendancy to cover the Blue line and not come in too deep, opening up the opportunity for a 2 0n 1 or 3 0n 1 break.

Virginia also has a couple of talented first year D that should fit in quite well as the season progresses.

I like the Jacks in this one. In fact, I like them all year. I think they will be very good.

Prediction:

Cloquet 6
Virginia 1

Virginia blew a 5-1 lead in the second period and CEC came all the way back and won it 7-5 with an empty netter. Goaltending was not good for most of this one.

Yea but that is a major major let down. To get a 2 goal lead and blow it is tough but 4 goals is really a big problem. Hopefully they can bounce back after the tough loss...

To those who actually saw the game:

Was this more the result of Virginia being better than anticipated, or Cloquet worse? Am I right to assume we won't be seeing much or Aaron Baker for a while? Any players that impressed you?

Virgina had some good plays early and scored on all of them. After CEC took a timeout, when it was 5-1, cec looked like what people expected and scored 6-0 in about 30 min.
At the end of the game Jokinen passed up an empty net goal to give new linemate a hatrick.
Jokinen had 5 points i think good start for my pick to lead section 7

After the timeout, the Jacks came out hitting big... I think that was a big turnaround in the game. Virginia was on theit heels the rest of the game.

Virginia played well until CEC took the timeout. Hendrickson should have called one himself when the game got to 5-3 to try to settle this young team. Virginia played well in the third. Had more shots on goal. Thompson played well in relief for CEC. Had some nice saves including one off the handle that just missed going in on a slapper with about a minute left.
All in all, it is a short term letdown for Virginia. But, as a whole, it should show the team and spectators that they aren't as bad a everyone predicts.
Keep your heads up boys. One game at a time.

I just can't believe still cloquet could give up 5 goals to VIRGINIA! I don't care who virginia has after saccheti and kishel left, they stilled scored 5 goals on the jacks...that's terrible D...jokinenen can't do it alone when they face the good teams

Will be an interesting game on 11/30 against Little Falls. Any predictions?

Thanks for the updates. The goalie battles in Cloquet, East, and Rapids will be crucial in deciding the section champion, so it'll be very interesting to see how Baker bounces back. Though Cloquet showed some obvious weaknesses they obviously can score, and I won't be shocked at all if Jokinen leads the section. As for Virginia, they seem to be on the right track for a young team.

oh boy
