Didn't really matter, the score could have been worse with Butkowski in the lineup as penalties would have killed.

Final shots were 51-13.
They werent man handled until after the 2nd goal then apollo kind of lost it, but where was brent tonight.
He had to serve a game misconduct for the five penalties he took in a previous game even though no game misconduct was issued.
Word at the rink was that a Cathedral parent called the MSHSL and complained about the Apollo player not getting a game suspension for 5 penalties and the league handed down the penalty after the fact. Apparently the head coach of Cathedral went and personally appologized to Brent for what a parent did, he did not know about it.

Game could have been much different with the top two d-man not playing as they both have some offensive play. Cathedral played pretty well and Schmitt had some nice moves and a sick goal. Hoefflin was never really tested and looked shaky when he had to make a save or two.

Don Lucia was in the building along with a scout from the Fighting Souix.

As a person that has been involved in CHS programs, I too feel bad about that. That is a coaches call.. if he wants to get involved or not. I think that they should be embarrased that they think they have to be that involved.

Schmidt has a lot of college attention, and if Motzko wasn't in the building, I'm surprised.

First, I'd like to once again apologize on the behalf of Cathedral for the LAME move of one parent. When I heard that last night I got heated.

But, I don't really think that having those defensemen would have really helped the Eagles all that much. In a cross town game, I could see Butkowski throwing another nickels worth of penalties in the mix. From what I saw from the game, Apollo had no depth at forward. Not that Cathedral had much, but they definitely had a little more. The big guns got nothing going for Apollo when I was there. They were completely shut down by Cathedral's second line in the third period.

Neither team really impressed me. Apollo had a huge defensive breakdown on the 3rd SCC goal as the last man back was a forward.

I continue to see this "#36 is a prodigy" sign at Apollo games. I don't think I would have brought this sign to the game last night. Christen is a nice player, but let's just put it this way...Christen wasn't the reason the Don was there last night.

I'm glad this game is over. I made a couple of easy bucks. Now I can go back to being an Eagle fan. Hopefully the GCC will give me a chance to give Goldy Gophers money back.

As a side note...Nate Hampton will steal a whole bunch of wins for Apollo this year. And I'll say a couple of those will be in the section playoffs.

I find it kind of sad that the Cathedral parent would have so little faith in the ability of their team to win that they would do this. Does it really feel better to win that way? Obviously their coach would rather try to win the game on the ice.

That is sad if true.
What would have happened though, if he had played, they won, and then got the game DQ'd because of it??? so is it possible that it was someone from there own ranks covering their backsides?
Just throwing it out there?

No one from Apollo was covering their own backside. As a proud Cathedral alum, I am truly embarassed. This issue was brought up more than a week ago. Before Apollo played River Lakes and Bemidji. I think this shows that a Cathedral parent was more than a little nervous about the Apollo game. Kind of funny how the issue wasn't brought to the high school league before the Bemidji game, isn't it?

Once again, I'm embarassed that a Cathedral parent would do such a thing.

George, I'm right with you on this! The good news is that most of the people agree with you as well. (at least I hope so)

We will probably never know the full story of who was involved, and it really doesn't matter. It's something that everyone has to live with now, and there will be a stigma to overcome for a while. I just hope that the next time CHS and Apollo meet, that everyone is healthy and playing so that there are no excuses. (Perhaps in the GCC final??)

I'm also embaressed being a cathedral supporter and having parents stoop that low to help win a game...

As for Can't never tried... as much as you want to sometimes, you can't pick your parents...

You can pick your friends, you can pick your ... blah blah blah, but you can't pick your family... ](*,) You know what, the kids of the offending parents probably don't even know the difference.

First of all, I have no alliance to either Apollo of Cathedral, but from what I am reading is a player had to serve a game suspension for having 5 penalties in a previous game. That is the rule Instead of bashing whoever brought it to the attention of the high school league, why in the heck isn't the Apollo coach being called out on this. Every HEAD COACh has to attend a rules meeting before the season. If he tried to get by with one here shame on him. If it was an honest oversight then so be. A rule is a rule and the penalty shall be served

Why would this effect cathedrals reputation they came out and played a great game of hockey and they won. This whole thing should have nothing to do with cathedrals hockey team, it was just a parent being a jerk.

The REAL blame goes to the referee team that worked the game that Butowski had the 5 penalties in. He should have been given a "game" then and there. Then this wouldn't even be an issue. But since it wasn't reported properly, the player played the next game without indedent.

Now, que up Cathedral's first game, and they had a player receive a 5th penalty with drew an ejection (rightfully so). TJ (player) then sat out the next game as he should, and is now back and playing and helping his team.

The coach and everybody else knew about this, but had chosen to just ignore it as officials make mistakes all the time, and quite frankly, he just wanted to play the games straight up and let the best team win. A parent, or parents, from CHS instead chose to call the MN High School League directly and report this travisty of rule breaking, because FAIR IS FAIR!!! #-o

So everyone that has any Cathedral alligiance is embarrased about this as it's not the parents job to run this type of interference for the kids.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head guys?

You bet.

I just found it funny that the Cathedral parent's waited to call Apollo out on it until Apollo played Cathedral. As I stated earlier, Apollo played Bemidji last Saturday, why wasn't the high school league called before that game? The answer is fairly obvious.

IMHO the MSHSL should have taken that into consideration.
Or maybe.... it just took that long for them to verify the info and act?

Nope. The MSHSL would be able to verify it within a few minutes. It was an oversight of the league, and when one game went by then it should have just been ignored. The Apollo coach, in all fairness, should have known this and acted on his own accord. But the fact that a parent or two from a different team thought they needed to be the cops here is what has our shorts in a knot. And to do it right before playing them... SICK!!

clearly going into the game cathedral was a better team, although apollo has a nasty first line and hampton who is solid and played sick, Apollo never had a chance, cathedral has some of the best defense in the state and their first two lines will match up against any. the final was 3-1 but it should have been atleast 7-1.
