Oh no, the MSHSL won't like that, they'll just count it as a 3-3 tie

I really hate that tie rule. I forgot about it for a second until you just brought it up. I guess it makes sense as to why they do it, but still, ties are about as weak as it gets.

Some would argue shootouts are too. In a place where a winner needs to decided the MSHSL just keeps playing OT

I would agree, I mean shootouts are fun and exciting, but I would rather see multiple overtimes to determine a winner. Cause with shootouts it's almost not a team effort, but rather who has better shooters or a hotter goaltender.

Fergus Falls 5
St Cloud Apollo 4

Stripes scored 2 for Fergus tonight in possibly the worst example of officiating ever.

The first was a goal which was waived off. Penalty called, whistle blows Fergus shoots and scores. The official next to the net correctly waives off the goal. Officials have a 2 minute conference and then decide Goal!

The second was the game winner in the third. The left post was about 12 to 18 inches off, people were yelling nets off, nets off, Fergus shoots and scores (5-10 seconds after the net was dislodged) Referee signals goal and claims he did not see the net was off. (Although it was right under his nose).

This officiating was a total embarrasment to the game of hockey.

ff v Apollo

Apollo goalie very solid in this one, and he was the one who kept the mighty Eagles in the game. 40-21 in shots on goal. The refs were not in the game tonight.....on Apollo's first goal the rush was off sides. It also seamed like the Apollo net happened to "incidently" fall off the spikes an aweful lot, particularly when there was a flury in front of it.......

"Incidentally" or not, the play should still be blown dead when the net is off.

Usually with an Otter leading the charge. I am not being critical of the kids. Both teams played very good hockey. It is just too bad that 3 adults (or at least 2 adults and one 16 yr old) with stripes have to intentionally call a biased game. They are supposed to call it fair and let the game be won on the ice.

I wouldn't say the refs were biased, Apollo had more than their share of power plays on questionable calls, in fact 1 or 2 goals were of their's were on the powerplay. Usually, really, Fergus refs are NOT biased toward the hometown boys, trust me. As I said, the refs were not in the game, at one point the puck hit the netting on the end of the ice and play kept going like nothing. At another the Apollo goalie made the intial save but the puck bounced down in front of him as the whistle blew. A completely other time the puck whent over the glass and the players eventually had to tell teh refs to blow it dead. Horrible officiating, yes, biased, absolutely not. The winning goal in question was a break away by Peck. A picture is on craigolsonsports.com. Clearly the net is off the mourings, however the puck is in the net in the picture. In that picture, the Apollo goalie's right skate is clearly the cause of the net being off as he is spread eagle faceing forward as if he was backing in as the player was coming.
Good game, but do not blame the refs, teh better team got the W. If the FF goalie was on as good a night as the Apollo, or even playing as an average goalie should, the score is 5-1, 5-2............the rematch will be fun ................
