Where did that offense come from? My other favorite team spanks a good Brainerd team. I'm 2-0 in Schwann's Cup today (3-0 with a NSP over Tartan win). Blaine amd St. Thomas Academy will be a real interesting game...

Brainerd vs. Blaine Summary

Blaine: 8
Grade: B

Team was solid. Played fast and smart. No real standouts, played well as a team. I haven't seen them play before(besides an early season scrimmage against Brainerd) so I'm not sure what they are capable of, but I thought they were a solid team. Passed the puck well and were all over the rebounds in front of the Brainerd net. Looked like they were well coached, they seemed to know what Brainerd was going to do, and did well to stop it.
They could've stayed out of the box a little more, I believe 2 of Brainerd's 3 goals were on the PP, could be wrong, but I know at least 1 was. Not much to improve on after an 8-3 stomping.

Brainerd: 3
Grade: F

Defensemen got beat consistently, did not clear rebounds or take the body well, did not control the puck well in the defensive zone. One of the worst defensive performances I have ever seen.
Forwards didn't do much to help out, running around on both defensive zone coverage and the forecheck. Played undisciplined hockey. I expected a little rust from the holidays, but this wasn't rust, this was clearly getting out-coached. No adjustments were made between periods, players continued to make the same mistakes they had been making all game. Gonna be a long couple of days if this doesn't get turned around in a hurry.

First Period:
Blaine jumped ahead 1-0 early after killing off a 5-3 disadvantage. Brainerd then came back and tied it with a tip-in from Joe Frazier(not sure on assists). A weak goal off the faceoff in the Brainerd zone gave the Bengals a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission. Blaine outplayed Brainerd for much of the first.

Second Period
Blaine spent some more time in the penalty box as Brainerd tied it at 2, tip-in on the PP from Drew Olson from Impola and Frazier. Blaine scores with 5:30 left in the second to take a 3-2 advantage into the 3rd. Play was more even in the 2nd, but again a slight advantage to Blaine.

Third Period
Game Over. 4-2, 5-2, 6-2, 7-2, 7-3, 8-3 final. Brainerd fell apart. Blaine took advantage, and piled on the goals. Clear advantage for Blaine in this one. Only bright spot for the Warriors was Michael Rinio from Jenkins and Swanson on the PP for Rinio's first career varsity goal.[/b]
