Boyd got one goal. Other goal scorers were Essel, Skalbeck and Hicks. Hopkins' strength does not rest with one or two key players. Goals are spread among several leaders. They have great forwards, an excellent defense and an awesome goalie in Alex Fons. Hopkins is no fluke. They have the momentum for now. I think they can continue it. Like most good teams, these guys have skated together for years. In youth hockey, they made it to regions most years. These kids have grown up together playing pond hockey for hours on end. If they have continued victories, it will be icing on the cake of an already successful season. This may appear to be a Cinderella team, but it has been years in the making.

Jack Paul, Appelhof, Gardiner, Fink and Essel grew up together........where are they now other than Essel?


It IS a Cinderella story, noone thought Travis Boyd could come in and play as well as he has, making his teammates better as an 8TH GRADER, Skalbeck has been great as well as a Sophomore, and everyone knew Fons would be good, but as good as he was last night? I don't think so.

I heard that Jack Paul left to play football for Tonka, because his uncle, Coatta's dad, was the offensive coodinator for them and the decision had nothing to do with hockey.
It is too bad they lost all those players, but every schools loses some players and that argument has been used many times for many teams, so that argument is not very good.

Yes they were there too, but I think you missed the post I was responding to, my post had nothing to do with complaining about losing players. Losing players is completely expected.

My point was that this high school team is not nearly the same as the many successful youth teams this age group was involved in. Also, they were still clearly less skilled than Tonka was, though it was closer to even when they gained confidence in the second and third.

So YES, this is a cinderella story, it was a great upset last night and I won't believe anyone who says AFTER THE FACT that they were expecting this.

So much hindsight bias here, NOONE was expecting Hopkins to win, rooting for them? Sure. But noone expected this, lets be real.
