Broncos win 5-2

it was 5-3.

Broncos dominated the first 2 periods and were ahead 4-0 after 2 periods and the shots were like 27-7. They also dominated the first half of the third they just had a little break down after that and let up a couple of odd man rushes that turned into goals.

International Falls did dominate the first two periods of this game. They came out and took it to Virginia and did not allow a shot on goal until more than halfway through the first period.

They finally broke through Lusting and took a 1-0 lead about 9 minutes in, but Virginia tried to respond and drew a couple of penalties to gain a 5 on 3 advantage. The back-breaker came when Youso took the puck end to end and snapped one past Lustig on that 3-on-5 disadvantage. Virginia seemed to fold up shop until the Broncos had a defensive hiccup about four minutes into the third period.

That hiccup lead to a 2 on 0 break and the Blue Devils' Chris Westin scored. From that point on, Virginia controlled the majority of play and almost came back from a 5-0 defecit. They scored two more and had more than a handful of other chances to score. I Falls almost let them steal this one after a dominating the first 38 minutes of the game.

I don't know if it was the Broncos letting up or Virginia finally getting the bus legs out from underneath them, but the Broncos missed a golden opportunity to send a message to other teams in the area. A 6 or 7 to 0 or 1 score would look a lot different against a quality team like Virginia than the 5-3 final does.

On the other hand, I'll give Virginia credit, they didn't lay down and die down 5-0 with 13 minutes left. They kept right on skating and made a game of it.

The Broncos need to work on playing the full 51 minutes. They seem to take large chunks of time off in a lot of their games (The first period of their first meeting in Virginia and the first two periods against Eveleth come to mind). Had Virginia had three or four more minutes, I think they might have come back and tied it.

Too bad the devils couldn't get anything going in the first two periods but they certainly made it exciting in the third. 3 goals in 13 shots on is not bad.

Impressed with Ladd Corrin of the Broncos. Good sense.

Congrats to the Broncos for a good game and a pat on the back to the Devils for not giving up.

oops yeah sorry it was 5-3. my bad. starting out the third period i thought we might actually finally see a shutout from the falls, but then virginia turned it around and made it a game.
