You're right. It's a private school in a small city. Aside from those associated with the school, few care, in fact most want them to go down. Just like almost all private schools. My post had nothing to do with being an alum or even a fan. Just like you'd be silly to pick anyone other than STA or HM for 4A and 4AA respectively the same can be said about a few other sections, 6A and 8AA are two in my opinion. Sure it's possible, but talking about it as if it's likely doesn't make sense. That was my only point. But you are right; indeed few will be upset, plenty more will be happy if they do lose one of their next 6 games.
mnmouth, way to beat a dead horse, I applaud you.

i didn't post this to hear about how much better AA is than A. its obvious they should be better...look at how many more kids tryout for their teams. some A teams only have 30 kids try out. but i know that many A teams can compete with AA.
does anyone have something to say about STA winning section 4A?

STA will get beat in sections, just not sure by who.

It's not like they are winning every game 10-0. They have two losses to A teams...

Yes, I've seen them play about 5 times this season.

hshckfan08, one of those losses was their 4th game and the other was to another top 3 team. That's respectable. Sure, they're not winning all their games by 10 goals, but 1/3 of their games they also play one of two other freshman goalies on the team, also if you look at the stats, the top scores don't have as many goals. I don't know for sure, but one could guess this would mean they are playing their 3rd and 4th lines more. Their top scorers are scoring a lot against top teams, but not against bottom teams, you do the math.
Cabela10, if you've seen them play 5 times this season, who do you think they could lose to? I've seen them play 4 times this season. The 4th one was the final of the Schwan Cup. After that game, I was convinced they'd walk through state, even have a shot at the AA title were they in AA. Since then, they have obviously proven it won't be that easy, but they are good. In any of 4 other sections (2A, 5A, 7A, 8A) I wouldn't be convinced they'd be playing in March. But who in their section will give them a game. South St Paul hasn't in years, and Mahtomedi hadn't in years until the last time at home. Yes, Mahtomedi got close probably because the goalie had a bad game, but in all 4 games this year St Thomas outshot So St Paul and Mahtomedi both by at least 2:1 and once 3:1.
As far as Totino goes, no head to head games, but they got killed by Benilde, a team St Thomas dominated. They got shut out by Mahtomedi. They also got beat by Lourdes and by Breck worse than St Thomas did. They did lose to Marshall by less than St Thomas did. So, on paper they don't have a shot either.
But, as I've said many times, the games aren't played on paper, so in 9 days we will see what happened. Whether St Thomas shuts out three teams, wins all three in OT, or loses on the 26th or 29th, we won't know until then.

The answer to the question is "no" they wont get upset in sections. That's why they play in Class A.
Play in Class A against small communities and then say "Yah, but I'll bet we could win in AA too".
Have some more Kool Aid, HS.

Anything can happen. That's all I'm saying. It won't be a cakewalk through sections for STA. Just being confident that STA will get beat and I'm hoping they do.

I wouldn't mind seeing St. Thomas get beat in sections. I would have a lot more respect for them if they played AA. MSHSL should not go by total enrollment, for boys activities only the boys enrollment at each school should count and girls activities only girls enrollment should count.

i agree with that, anyone know how many people are enrolled at STA? the should double whatever it is and if they are still considered to be in class A keep them there but if not move them up. i dont know why this has never been an issue before. measuring by total enrollment is a stupid way of deciding what level they play.

there are ~550 guys that attend STA. that may or may not include the middle school. if you double that its ~1100. i'm not sure where that would put them.
edit: middle school=7-8, high school=9-12 so at the max there would ~550 guys in the high school

I believe there are over 1,000 enrolled @ St. Thomas Academy grades 10-12. They showed it when they played Hill @ the Xcel Center.

According to the MSHSL site the enrollment at STA(Brokeback Mountain) is 1082 for 9-12.

Which is double the actual number of students to account for same sex education.

It doesn't say that it has been doubled, just gives the enrollment?

I know but for their purposes they use the doubled up number and treat it like its the actual number.
Call your pal Dave, I'm sure he will set you straight on what they do with same sex schools.

I go to the school. I well let it be known that our high school enrollment is around 520-530.

I read STA's website and it says their boys enrollment is 685 for the 2007-2008 school year. So I'm not sure where this 550 is coming from when there own website says 685 for this school year.
Another thing, does the MSHSL count 9-12 grade or 10-12. Because somebody above mentioned 10-12 enrollment. High School as far as I know it, has always been 9(freshman)-12(senior).

Just a a point of clarifacation on that issue, they matter to those that are afraid to opt up.

Who knows anymore. I do know for a fact that STA competed in AA football in 1980 with an enrollment in the 400's, a number far smaller than all other AA's of that era.

GopherWild, I agree completely only the count for that gender should count. I started a thread about it a couple months ago and people responded like I was crazy.
Cabela10, what it says on the site is for grades 7-12.
The number on the website is adjusted for the enrollment. Just like if you look at the Mpls/St Paul schools, they are adjusted for free and reduced lunch numbers. Minneapolis Washburn, for example, is listed at 925, when they have freshman classes around 500 yearly. The number on the site is the adjusted number.
My prediction is a 5-1 finish in the post season, like last year. I'd like to see 6-0, but only one team gets to do that, whereas 3 get 5-1, the chances are a little higher. Plus, with the target on their back, 1st is really tough.

It is unbeleivable that Packerboy hasn't thrown himself off the Wakota Bridge yet. Your Cadet envy is deafening. You take advantage of every chance you get to bash STA. You have made your point about them moving up to AA....now try having another original thought. STA is very good and will likely win the section. Not for certain, but likely. On paper, they are better than every other team in the section, which is why they got the number one seed. South St. Paul is pretty solid and Totino and Mahtomedi have really come a long way since the beginning of the year. Just like closet cases act like the biggest homophobes, Packerboy acts like the biggest critic of STA. We all know deep down under that Packer maroon you bleed Cadet blue. Time to turn the page and find a new object of your obsession. You are welcome to cheer for the Cadets when the Packers end their season in February.
