dubCHAguy, how could you say section 1A is a not a good class A section. 5 top 20 teams isnt one of the top? in my opinion they me be one of the best sections. top 5 teams could compete in a couple AA sections. but whatever you say.

i would have to say my most dissapointing team this year would have to be orono. have been a rising program with alot of success the last 4 years, but couldnt even make it out of the quarters this year.

Jbone, tell us more about this. Did he resign or just leave for more $ in a teaching job? If hes gone, who's next?

I said 1A is "not that great." It's a solid "A" section, not the best. My point was the same as yours, that 5 1A teams would have a good chance of winning 1AA this year.

I'm curious though, what other AA sections do you think any 1A team would have a chance in?

I had a feeling this might let the flood gates open to potential coach hopefulls.
I'm not sure, but I don't think he resigned. There might have been some family issues that stirred things up for him but that was from a Rosemount player.
Not sure what the coaching scene would look like for next year for Farmington.

Champlin Park, having the two seed and getting upset by 7.Rogers.. maybe a dissapointment. and i would say Duluth East as well

Elk River. I know the standards and expectations are very high in the River, but the Elks fell way off the map this year. They have struggled in the playoffs since the latest move to 7AA, and they really didn't achieve too much success at all this year. 1 & done in the playoffs, got swept in their holiday tournament, let Champlin Park get their first (and 2nd) win in I believe 28 tries... Need I go on...because I could.

Anyways, at least Tony is still out there trying to put it down. Maybe next year they will rebound, but expectations have certainly been lowered for the first time in a long time. The Zimmerman/Rogers 3-way split is definitely setting in.

"true they did lose 14 seniors, but they did have 12 seniors this year that were expected to take them far into the playoffs"

Nobody in the know expected as many wins as they had.

I just thought that one or the other should be in every thread, so I decided to take care of it early here.

Eastview and Duluth East are my picks....where did you get JM? they are always a dissapointment to hockey.

Eastview should have been sooooo much better, does anyone have input on why they did not do better with their talent? Bad coaching maybe?

The three programs that seem to under achieve are Centennial, Wayzata and Eden Praire. It seems they always have strong teams in their youth programs, but do not get out of their h.s. sections. There school districts have not split the high schools, so they should get the core of the youth teams.

they dominate by numbers at the youth level. The problem is quality of program leaders. If you look at Edina, for example, they have an amazing group of booster coaches. By the time those kids reach varsity, they are already elite. Wayzata, and Centennial don't have the coaching the elite programs have right now, however I wouldn't doubt that changing.

Eastviews problem was that everyone on that team was individualized and self centered. They have 4+ standout possible all conference players and none of them lived up to the hype. Not to criticize, but feinhage could have played a little better

1A: Red Wing - In the top 10 almost the whole year and couldn't make it out of the first round
2A: Orono - They seem to make it to state almost every year but didn't even win a section game.
3A: Marshall - Started out great, looking like they would walk to state, then fell apart.
4A: Totino-Grace - Not done yet, but they were a preseason top 10 team.
5A: Hermantown - The loss of LeBlanc obviously hurts a lot but a #4 seed after a state championship is really dissapointing.
6A: Detroit Lakes - It's hard to pick one from this section but you would've thought that a section change would be a good thing.
7A: Virginia - You can't pick IFalls because they only lost 4 games all year. As for Virginia, in the first half of the year, they were the #3 seed and fell apart.
8A: Bemidji - 9 wins and an early exit in single A competition.

1AA: Rochester Mayo - Early in the year I thought they might be the front runner in 1AA.
2AA: Holy Angels - Tough section, but they are Holy Angels.
3AA: Eagan - A #7 seed? 10-0? Coming off two good seasons and their big time goalie coming back.
4AA: Tartan - They beat Hill early in the season, end up getting ripped by WBL 8-1.
5AA: Maple Grove - I wasn't expecting anything from Champlin. MG was looking like a #3 seed at mid-season. They're still alive though.
6AA: Armstrong - Ended up losing 14 games after a great start.
7AA: Elk River - East had a good season. The Elk River Elks only won 8 games!
8AA: Moorhead - I know they're playing for the section title but 12 regular season wins is unbelievable.

Thanks Jbone. Just wonderng what happened. Looked like at least a decent team early in year. Obvioulsy had a major collapse after Christmas.

Would John Holmes the girls coach at Farmington be a possibility to take that Farmington job?

Eastview wasnt good not because they played as individuals (Feinhage was the only one who did that, there first line played well together) it was because they did not have a good goalie. Krob and OShea are both average goalies and it ended up catching up with them.

biggest disappointment

Orono Spartans, they came into the year ranked very highly, top five i believe, and ended up around five hundred with and average schedule

it's kind of hard to be good when all the bantam A player go to lourdes instead of any of the public schools

ok well i work with one of the parents that has a kid on the team so i'll tell you what i heard. it was indeed family problems. he lives in prescott and his daughter attends rosemount high school so it was impossible to really have much connection during the week with her. he moved to rosemount strictly so that she can spend the night at his house during the week and just ride with him to school. that's just what i heard and it seems believable. But yes their collapse was huge. the coach just quit caring is what i had heard and the players thought why should we care if we dont have a coach that gives a crap. bad mentality but a coach that doesnt care can really drag a team down.

as far as replacements go, the varsity assistant todd karich is a possibility. i could see them denying him though and starting fresh since he has been with the program the last few years that have been very under achieving. i heard barger, the head coach at new prague is a possibility. he has been after this job for awhile and it is his alma mater. i could also see him not applying though because of the all the returners next year to new prague. they look ready to make a run. other than that i don't really know. as far as holmes applying i could see it happening but also not for the same reason as barger. his two leading scorers were freshmen and he has an 8th grade goalie that had a 36 save shutout in the quarterfinals of state. but hey ya never know.
