I'm trying to remember, but after 26 years it's fuzzy...They were the Dolphins? Colors blue and white? Logo on the jersey was an anchor?

Is this correct?
We cheer for you

Edina was loaded with their first merged team after several years as East and West. Dave Maley, Wally Chapman, John DeVoe, Bill Brauer, Dan Carroll, and several other very good players.
Edina was loaded:

Dave Maley: Wisconsin (2nd round to Montreal)
Wally Chapman: Minnesota (3rd round to Minnesota)
John DeVoe: Notre Dame, Providence (4th round to Montreal)
Bill Brauer: Michigan (12th round to Montreal)
Dan Carroll: Michigan Tech
Mike DeVoe: Harvard
Mike McCarthy: CC
Paul Roff: Ohio State (Drafted by somebody)
Jeff Vacanti: Michigan Tech
Tom Rzeszut: Yale
Dave Baker: CC
Dan Wurst: Providence (8th round to Montreal)
Jim Lozinski: Denver
Mike Roberts: Dartmouth

I think they closed in the mid- to late-80s, because I remember the White Bear basketball team had like 7 or 8 returning starters the year they won state.
Mariner opened in the fall of 72, Class of 74 was the first graduating class.
and the last graduating class was 1983.

It is quite alright, and thanks for the info. I personally did not realize that Edina had that many good players on their team that year. Although their parents probably just bought their sons the spots on those college teams. :P

I guess you'll just have to continue with your guessing game for that answer.

This is your thread....thanks!

I'm pretty sure wbmd did realize how many good players were on that team. Something hit a nerve, but I agree with him about a different forum!

and, I believe you are right regarding the parents buying college spots. There is no way Maley, DeVoe or Chapman could have possibly made it on their own!!

Now back to the subjuct of White Bear Mariner '82.

thx

Huge, yes! You provided even more clarity on what I remember fairly well. The Varsity was pretty much picked with returning Varsity players from East and West.

Mariner then merged into White Bear Lake, but the Bears never quite replicated the success of Edina. I seem to remember that Mariner team had a lot of seniors. Maybe that's why.

A few returning letter winners were cut before the season even began. The roster out of try-outs was all seniors.

No more posts for me on this subject, we are pi$$ing on the WBM parade. Clown, start a new thread and I'll join.

Maybe we could goat wbmd into giving up the meaning by making up ridiculous meanings for the D?

So why exactly did the school only open for a couple of years and then merge back? Just seems odd.

It's weird looking at that class of '81 page and thinking that was a White Bear school with those colors. Pretty small school from the looks of it as well.

Mariner was open about as long as Edina West was.

Not really a small school. Besides, the school is still open now. It's where the juniors and seniors go. What was White Bear High School is where the freshmen and sophomores go.

Thats fine and all but what we really want to know is are you in the yearbook that is linked on here or did we miss it by a year or so?

Funny thing is, I always thought you were a WB Doc. :D

ps- those pictures of '81 are proof positive that the young ladies today are 10x hotter than they used to grow em.
