Lakeville - 1AA

Lakeville South (most down here call them Elko South) was a huge underdog. They played well in the first period of both games with an "in your face style" and big checks but they lost steam in the second and third periods. Not scoring a single goal and going 2 and out did not impress many. Yummy played very good as expected and was the only player for Elko to show off as college material. Coach Weber did get a bit of a slam from the broadcasters because it was never mentioned that he was an assistant coach for Lakeville when they played in several past tournaments. I'm not a fan of the guy anyways so it was good laugh. We call him Darth and his son Luke make up the dark force duo. All in good fun mind you. 1AA is in a slide and you will not see much from them for a few years but a surprise or 2 in 2011 and 2012 from Lakeville and Elko should put them in the limelight, that is if the elite players do not take off for greener Catholic pastures in mass as they have been. This question begs and answer - Good coaches always draw in good players. Does that mean not so good coaches repel good players? You make the call.

I think a lot of Lakeville kids saw the first two years of South's program when they won a total of like 7 or 8 games and got freaked out. Probably thinking "If I want to win and go to the state tournament I have to play somewhere else." Hopefully this turn around year in there 3rd year of existence will show the community and the good players comming up that South is ready to compete and make the state tournament regularly. Congrats to South for a fine year and best of luck to them next year. They have a good core of returners but replacing one of the best goalies in the state will be tough.

Lakeville South loses to Hill-Murray 3-0 and everyone is "see 1AA is so bad, they don't deserve a spot". Roseau loses 6-2 and Edina loses 3-0 and it's "wow Hill was really underated". It's who you are not what you are. 1AA gets a bad rap, period. This is the first year 6AA has had a team finish 3rd or above since 1997, but every year they always are the section that gets "screwed". South was the only team in the tournament for the first time, hardly anyone does well the first time, JM (a section 1 team) is the exception.

If it wasn't for the tackle football game that broke out when South was on the PP it could have been 5-3 South.
How many breakaways and 2 on 1's did Hill have on Roseau? On Edina? No more than they did on South.
If ifs and buts were candy and nuts it would be Chritsmas everyday.

I am glad the kids from south got to experience the state tourny, but they just didn't belong. They got 30 shots on goal in 2 games. 0 goals. Yes they had a great goalie, but not much else. I do agree that both Lakevilles loses alot of players, but so does Apple Valley, Rosemount, Burnsville. It's just the way hockey is. Its to bad that 1AA doesn't compete like it did in the late 70's and early 80's.
