Opinions are great with me, and this is the Star Trib's opinion if Phillippi is the 1st team goalie.

As for my opinion, I'll throw in some stats to prove he deserves some credit:

Career vs. White Bear Lake: 8-0, 1.69 GAA, 93.6 save percentage.

Season Stats: 21-3-1, 92.3 Save %, 1.61 GAA

Overall career: 60-11-3

Say what you want about his schedule but Phillippi has helped the Pioneers win some big contests.

The laughing was centered more on him being a first team pick.

At least 44 of his points were against very poor teams.
Cecka 3rd team - guess I called that right that he wouldn't - and shouldn't - have been first team.

Could you post 2nd and 3rd team please?

Congrats to Woodburys' David Eddy for making the 2nd team.

metro player of the year

Congrats to the All state team. I think they did a great job.
The only one I don't get is how do you leave off Anders Lee.
Edina needed balance on their team And he was the sacrificial lamb.
Who ever is responsible for this injustice has NO CREDIBILITY in judging talent.    Otherwise, good job.

RBK, plus Lee had great numbers. Oh well, he was bumped out and certainly was hurt by being on a team with some accomplished teammates.

You guys wanted 3 Edina forwards on the 1st team? Please.

Well, he had more goals than any other player on the above named metro teams with the exception of Everson, and did not play with Everson or Budish until the last three section games where he scored 8 goals....

It's possible who you play with can make a difference, even more impressive when you do it alone.

If they had a fourth team, I am sure he would be there. The kid will be fine, the opportunities are there.

I don't think anyone suggested he make 1st Team. I'm just asking the valid question of why he didn't make 3rd. I assume there just wasn't room.

He has had a great season.

disagree, hes no where near the top goalie in the metro. He, like Cashetta is the product of an average goalie on a great team. With the team hes on and the schedule they play, if he was that good his stats should rival those of Lee from Roseau

So from what you say, Lee from Roseau is the top metro goaltender? Okay, got it...

Sparlimb, get plenty of sun screen on the top of your feet.

I lost about 2 days of vacation once for not doing that. Ouch.

Have to agree Lee should have been in the top 12 forwards. A for sure second teamer. There are a couple 2-3 guys on here that were not consistent all year but got hot the last few games and then playoffs.
Bergland (BM) and Walters (STA) should have both been no brainer All Metro. Birkhols from Blake should also have bumped a couple of the third teamers.

Sparlimb.

Apparently its time for a reading comprehension class for you. Nowhere do I say lee is the best metro goalie.

All I said about Lee is that phillippi (with the team he has in front of him, and the schedule they play) should have similiar stats to Lee.

As for the best metro goalie...both the 2nd and 3rd teamer are better than him.

Congrats to Everson and Brown, but having them on the first team over Mattson is just silly. He had more points than either of them-- and before you scream "soft schedule"-- he had a hat trick and 2 assists in a 5-4 win over Hill Murray, a hat trick in a 6-3 loss to Minnetonka and both goals in a 2-2 tie with the top ranked team in Massachusetts.

More importantly, watch each of the three play for just a period and you'd have to be blind to not pick Mattson out as the best of the three.

Is this a "we hate Trebil for recruiting" vote from area coaches?

I love the comments from the players. Gardiner and Everson saying they want to fight each other. Then you have JT suggesting he would like to put someone over the boards, pretty much sums up my impression of the guy.

What impression. Its hockey you hit guys. Just what I am sure mosy scouts are looking for akid to say I like to shy a way frm the play.

The kids a great aggressive player its a shame parents out here bashing him all hte time. I can't wait until he makes it big time and he will. Then we will see all the band wagin jumpers.]

PS lets see if every post for the next 15 minutes only everyone could say something positive or nice about a player and not show our jealousy.

I personally would have liked to see a goalie from an average or worse team beat him out. I can bet you anything that Lucas Johnson from Litchfield is just as good as Phillippi, but because he plays for Litch, he gets NO attention. I would pay to see Phillippi play for a team like Litch or New Ulm or St. Louis Park... etc. he'd get shelled for once in his career... and if anyone thinks im a Phillippi hater, your wrong, he just doesn't deserve it IMO. 8)
