If we are at the point where the A teams can compete with the AA teams, and I think we are, lets just go back to a 1 tier tourny, or at least have a A/AA playoff.

If STA wants any respect as a hockey school they need to play with the big schools and prove themselves. I know many have said that STA shouldnt be forced to move up to AA and i agree, but i think STA should WANT to move up. I dont konw what they are proving to themselves by beating up on smaller schools every year in the tourny. They are a good enough team to make it to state in AA, so why dont they compete with the best?

STA has won one title. They're not a dynasty. So who knows if they could even compete in AA.

STA has been good for the last 4 years. They got the new rink and new coaches, along with a lot of new talent. Obviously there is controversy about recruiting and such and the MSHSL is trying to take care of it. Obviously there is going to be a lot of new talent when a facility like this is made along with the coaches. I also think their new development program that is based out to the St. Thomas Ice Arena has brought in some good talent as well. The formet Impact program, not called FHIT or whatever it is has made the atmosphere at the arena home to work outs and hockey year round. If you want to force a team to move classes how many years do they need to be good for this move to take place? I believe that STA hockey program feels they can play with any AA team and would like the pride of playing at that level, but it just isn't going to happen right now.

As mentioned, STA was a terrible hockey program up until recent. They had one good year in '99 with Funk, Flikeid, Keller, et al. where they took the consolation title, but other than that it's all very, very recent. I would expect you will see them move up to AA- But it's down the road a few more years when they've built a real level of consistency.
