Can someone explain how everyone is told that they must tryout for the District Select team based on their home address yet the District 4 team has Shattuck players that live in other Districts? Is that fair for the players that were passed over that actually live in District 4? They're minors so don't tell me that their home address in Fairbault.

I don't know, but very good observation.

i think the grand rapids kids are smart just to staying out of the tryouts. selects means nothing!!!!!! it would be nice if the kids who deserved to be recognized were but it doesnt always happen or maybe thats the way people feel. its not always black and white. selects mean nothing!!!!!! its the same as super series or mn select tournaments they mean nothing.

Hey Jake if you knew you weren't gonna take carlson and you thought he had an attitude problem why did you nominate him in the first place.

Plus he was one of the best kids at the advanced 16s tryout so i don't know how you don't take him for the 15s.

What are you talking about, there were G.R. kids in St.Cloud & New York last year, I believe there were at least 2 or more, and I'am sure there will be some this year, at least trying out. I agree with that some kids that don't go on are overlooked, and some are on because of who they know, but the majority are very good players. As far as meaning nothing, it means something to the ones that go on and it's a bitter pill to swallow for the ones that don't. That's when you work harder to make it the next time. Or you just go on here and say it "Means Nothing". It "Means alot", if it mean nothing to you why go on here, there are college coaches and
scouts from all over there. The best players "at this age at this time" in
the US are there, but that's not saying it will be the same next year!

I believe this is incomplete, for I just checked out the practice today and some kids may be missing and some may not be on it even though there up here. District 1 plays 2 and 3 to decide there seed.

Advance 15's play-in game.... District 2 played District 3 tonight .... District 2 won by a score of 4 to 2. The shots were pretty close .... 25 for District 2 and 23 for District 3.

At least one of the kids from SSM on the D4 Advanced 15 team does live in Faribault year round. I don't know about the others.

Everyone is forgetting that this "tryout" is about finding the "talent and skill" on the ice. This is not a "team" tryout. It is the responsibility of the evaluators/coaches to indentify the most talented and skilled playes with in thier district, then pass them on to the spring festival. From there, the process begins agian, then to the state festivial and eventually to the National Festival. Remember, this is a "USA Hockey" National process that is designed to help them indentify the top 40-50 players in the country.

Dan Carlson is one of the best '93 players in the state and that's who the Adv. 15's are suppose to identify for USA Hockey. I don't know the kid (have seen him play and he's very talented) or the coach, but it makes no sense to any of the rest of us why the Bantam A coach would recommend him for tryouts and then blackball the kid. Someone needs to be mature here and if the kid is good enough (which everyone seems to be in agreement that he is), then he should've made the district team. That was the job of the evaluators - to choose the best kids in their district - period. I think someone should step in and correct this situation, but it's probably much too late. It not only reflects poorly on the coach, but also the district board and the Adv. 15 program.

These kids are only 15 and most the really good ones, do have attitudes - that's part of what gives them their edge and aggressiveness. They'll mature out of that, but I don't think it's right to get in the way of their future success (although in the end I don't think the Adv. 15 will hurt him). I'm sure he'll have a great MN Blades season and I've heard the Prospects Tournament attracts all the top scouts. I'm sure he'll get his look. Good luck to you Dan!

eastranger- all these kids are in diffrent stages of development. imo it means nothing. the bitter pill to swallow well that comes later when you have made all these teams on the way up and suddenly the playing field evens out you go out for a ushl team and either dont make it or see little playing time. the second year its the same thing you have no scholarship in your pocket and hockey is over except for the local bar league that the new wife bitches about because you dont get home until 1:00 a.m. Thats when you swallow that pill not because you dont make "the select team"
