Also, Ballard and Niskanen will probably never be all stars and Peter Mueller is not "great". The cream of the crop right now is Parise, Byfuglien, David Backes, Langenbrunner, and Leopold and Gologoski are both having good years. Erik Johnson, Oshie and Okposo definitely have bright futures too.
I wish we could (fully) claim Oshie, but unfortunately he was not MN born. Otherwise, yeah, he's MN through and through.
Yeah I know he was born in Washington, I was just hoping no one would call me out on that one. Very good call on Stepan though, he's going to be a good one.

Are you smoking crack? His father was a football player at SCSU where he met Buff's mother and then split. He was raised in Roseau and due to poor grades went into Juniors and skipped out on the HS scene.
Also, forgot to mention
Derek Stepan. Captained America's U-20 to gold last year and scored a hat trick for the Rangers in the preseason. Kid is going to be on America's next (gold-medal-winning) olympic team in three years - perhaps an alternate captain. Mark my words.
If I remember correctly he scored a hat trick in the first game of the regular season.

Not orange.
I had the pleasure of working with this group for a couple years, Tyler Nanne is a stud. I'm not sure if there is/was "next level" talent though. Those special ones are so few and far between.
best McMade nhl'er talent: I'd have to go with (current) Mueller, (overall) E. Johnson.

Stepan has a really bright future, no doubt, but realize that the 2010 US team had just 2 forwards over 27 years old. If he makes the team I will be somewhat surprised.
The ones I could see possibly putting themselves in the Housley/Broten conversation some day are Zach Parise and David Backes.

Guaranteed he is on the Georgia Games' team. To this day I can't believe Buff wasn't on our Silver medal team in Vancouver, but he didn't really REALLY break out until the playoffs when he lead everyone in goals scored en route to the Hawks' Cup championship.
Stepand is going to be a superstar, I believe. Now if only the Wild would have kept Gaborik and somehow have secured Stepan, we would be a beast!

I only consider someone who was born on MN soil, technically, true Minnesotans', sort of like a person born in America versus a person born in Canada.
Brettu Hull played for UMD and played for the US in American hockey competition, but he was born in Canada, so he is a tricky case (and there are similar cases).
BTW, what the heck is "Bernie" made? Who is this Bernie?

What about a good born in another state, but moves to Minnesota as an infant? Is he not considered made in Minnesota??

I guess, but I am just posting kids that have been born here. There isn't another state in the union with a comparable youth system, so those who've came up through the ranks I suppose count. But again, the guys I've listed are only those who are natives.

So Oshie is out because he's from WA? Buff is out because he didn't play HS? How about we compromise and say it's anybody who played bantams in Minnesota? It's a nice formative age, and it should catch most of the guys we want it to catch. Deal?

While Oshie was born in Washington, he didn't lace up the ice skates until he moved to Warroad. I don't know HOW you wouldn't consider him to be "Minnesota Made".
...and Byguglien was also developed as a hockey player in Minnesota and the fact that he didn't play HS hockey in Minnesota shouldn't be held against him. Hell, if that was the creteria, shouldn't Leopold and any other player that goes to Ann Arbor to play in the NTDP also be disqualified?
IMO, if you played hockey in Minnesota during your formative years, you should be considered "Minnesota Made". It shouldn't matter what state is listed on their birth certificate. Crosby doesn't count as he only played at Shattuck of one year of high school.

I think the OP is referring to players that come from the Machine/other Bernie teams. Buff didn't ever play for him. Out of that you're looking at guys like Okposo and Johnson.

Was Minnesota Made around for Okposo and Johnson? I realize that Bernie coached them for a period of time....but didn't think he started Minnesota Made yet.

No, but they were both part of the fabled "88's."
This was my interpretation of the original post as well.
