They're banking on the fact the the player isn't happy with their situation, and since they still have eligibility left...
For example, Michael Forney was a third round NHL draft pick, and he's played a combined 19 games for the Sioux in his first two seasons. I'm sure he's looking to play elsewhere at this point.
Ellingson is the clear-cut backup for NMU the next two years. Maybe he thinks he can start elsewhere, or at least backup (with the opportunity to compete for starter) somewhere in the WCHA.
Be assured, if the coach used a first round pick, they've talked to the player and are absolutley certain they'll report.
I understand some of that, but a lot of kids will just transfer in this day and age if they are unhappy. Also, Ellingson played in 9 games last year, starting 8, going 4-4. I would assume a kid like that would transfer before taking a step back down. An unhappy MLB player doesnt ask to play in AAA, he asks to be traded. Just my opinion, but I see your side very clearly also.
They will most likely transfer, but NCAA guidelines forces them to sit out a year, unless they go down to DIII. Hence the reason to go back into the USHL.

I believe it's all over. 30 players per team completes the list. Congratulations to all the Minnesota boys taken. Good luck. If I missed your name on the list somehow, apologies. Best of luck to all players chosen.

This rivals Brian Lawton, Tony Mandarich, and Ryan Leaf for bad picks in my opinion. Forney has not been playing because of lack of talent. When he didn't play through his injury at the state tourney I found out every thing I would ever need to know about him.

Didn't he break a bone at the state tournament?

Was sitting in my office keeping track. My bosses gave me a big thumbs up for being so busy

I was pretty curious to see how many Minn. kids went.

No, just to ease my conscience.

I did manage a little extra time even working through part of the lunch hour. I think I may be even now.

Probably should change the signature line, or at least work Saturday

I'm good now, back to all square. Maybe even a little ahead.
