I don't know the Bemidji players Elliott is referring to. My point, good and great players pop in communities of all sizes.

Reading your moniker there is obviously some homerism. I won't agree with you that he is the most solid defensive D in the state. I will agree that he is a talented kid and should be getting D1 looks.

The young man might not be big in regards to height. He appears to have tree trunks for legs and I bet he pushes 190lbs. His lower body strength makes him a tough player. Baker is Edina's best D.

Park Rapids' McMorrow is a good D-man.
It will be more difficult this year with Lehrke graduated.
It will be a telling year for him and possibly his last...
junior hockey maybe awaiting him as a senior.

The Audette kid from Rogers is an understated player.
As an alternate in the elite league, he scored a couple of goals in Fargo last week.

Agreed, have seen him play, definitely has shown the ability to play at the next level. Rogers will definitely be counting on him with the loss of what's his name that left for juniors.

On power plays, yes...and they sure are downright scary. Randolph prefers to spread them out at even strength; East has enough depth at D to do that excellently.

Duluth East has a very solid group of defense

yea he is deffinelty reaping the bennefits of being 6-3 200 in 8th grade, i think he would be wise to go to the USHL next year

wow.... you say single A hockey like it is some diesase.... a lot of very good players come out of single A. The only difference is double A has more kids to choose from, so maybe they have a bit deeper of a bench. didnt STA (the single A champions) beat Hill (the double AA champions) at some point last year?

you have to add Mark Alt from CDH to the list (Leddy and Schmidt already mentioned)

From what I understand at EP, there's a few things that happened; 1) Lee Smith isn't a great coach, he doesn't play his good players the way they should be played, and he likes to play 4 lines (I'm not a big fan of 4 lines, but could handle it, if they had four lines), and 2) their are some whacko parents that I believe are misguiding their kids. From what I can tell, the 4 fairly talented kids that left the EP program (Rush, Thompson, Rogge, Clark), either aren't playing much, and/or aren't lighting it up. Good news is the cancer is gone.

Like you, I'm a traditionalist and I think Leddy made the right choice to stay in EP. He's playing at such a high level, I'm not sure going to NTDP, Des Moines, or Spokane would boost his scouting opportunities.

I think you should check your sources. Thompson has had many d-1 programs sniffing around him, and he most likely is not playing as much because of his inexperience. Given the time Blake will be quite the defensemen.

Clark is playing on one of the top lines for Shattuck's prep team. This is the same team that has produced many of the counties top college and pro players. A opportunity like that for a young mans carer is much more beneficial than playing on a high school team.

Rogge is playing for EP. This severly damages your creditablity, and you knowledge of the situation.

I do not know about Rush. So i will not comment.


The EP Varsity team had the opportunity to load up on a talented sophomore class that had won 2 consecutive State Bantam A Championships. And for people to blast Coach Smith for making what was a hard decision is ludicrous. Coach Smith is a Good coach and a great guy. I find it very troubling that many people on this board continue to hammer him like he is a idiot. Please refrain in the future from making blanket statements that are unfounded and wrong.


BTW Leddy is the best defensemen in the state Bar none!

he's also unreal at football.

Marc Alt all the way he's got it going on, starting quarterback and one of the top D in the state.

Apple Valley has 2 really good defensemen this year, they are known for their D, Lundin at Tampa Lightning, Medvec at Vermont, Fischer at the U. Look at the Thompson kid, he was all conference last year, he is all over the ice, strong player, I think he was their top scorer last year

Isn't he a multi sport athlete that decided to play more than one sport in high school? Should make him a better athlete, thus better hockey player as long as he continues to work on his game. He can play in the USHL after high school if that is what Lucia and company want.

By the way, I think you have added a couple of inches to his frame. I may be wrong, but I believe he is more like 6' 1".
