So did anyone have any reports from Elk River last weekend? I heard Wayzata was there but not sure who the other teams were.

Wow!! Look at Minnetonka... Not a single 8th or 9th grader on the Varsity squad... (per a coworker, it appears to be the same with their JV roster. )

Prediction for the season is that they will have top U12, U14 AND HS teams...which means they will have a top HS programs for some time to come...

A model for other High Schools to follow. Robbing Peter to pay Paul may not be the best long term solution.

By far the best approach, as long as your program has the numbers to support it! Some (most?) are not so fortunate and have to make do with what they have, or if the numbers are really low co-op with other programs.

Minnetonka and Hill Murray had a good 1.5 hour scrimmage today it was a battle of two pretty good teams. Whistles were blown on penalties but no special teams.

Hill Murray controlled a lot of the play and shots were probably 3-1 or more in their favor. Hill had four varsity players not in the game.

Minnetonka goalies played very well.

Hill won on the score board 3-1.

Ramsey looked very good for Minnetonka and probably generated most of the Minnetonka shots.

Hill Murray is a little different since school goes from 7-12 grades it will be interesting to see how the program and players evolve - 37 are in the program and 51 went out.

- The Varisty has 5 Sr, 6 Jr, 3 So, 3 Fr.
- The JV has 1 Jr., 6 So, 8 Fr, 4 - 8th, 1 - 7th

Is that the same D who played for CDH in the past? Also looks like the biggest star from Silver Bay found a new home this year, any other big shifts in the new "no transfer" era?

I know that she played for Hill-Murray last year and yes I believe she did attend CDH and play for them as a freshman. Very strong and talented, just one of many on that team. Not surprising that they did so well against Minnetonka in that scrimmage, even without several of their top players according to joehockey's report.

As a guy from the north. I like to see the homegrown teams and observe their play. It tells me alot about the conditon of the youth programs. I really like Centenial girls program, Wayzata, Edina, Elk River, Stillwater, White bear, Roseville. They are traditionally provide good teams each year. If you look at the Hill Murray roster and consider just how good White Bear Lake could be. As far as private schools go. I would like to know other peoples postions on these teams. Watching kids evolve as hocky players from 4-5 years old, and growing as a community team seems more gratifying.

I don't know all the programs but no question Minnetonka, Edina, Stillwater, Roseville and White Bear have tremendous community based programs and generally lose few girls from youth to HS.

Go to a Stillwater game and one of the highlights is all the young "Future Pony" youth players cheering loudly and having fun in the stands! Last year when they raised the 2007 State Tournament banner they had some 100 youth players on the ice....man talk about imprinting success...pretty cool!

White Bear, Stillwater and Woodbury probably would have kids in the line up from Hill Murray....most of these kids went to Catholic grade schools and were on a Catholic HS track all along. So I don't think it is good or bad.

Kaylee Sommer has looked very very good in the first week and a half and has had impact in each of the 5 scrimmages. She has great speed, distributes the puck and has a good shot.

Five of the six White Bear players on Hill Murray's roster have won a state championship -- two of them won back-to-back state championships. While it would be nice to have these players playing at White Bear, I don't think anyone who knows these families would question their decision to go to Hill. At least four of them went to Catholic elementary schools and were on the track to go to a private Catholic high school. In the state of Minnesota, losing kids to private schools is a fact of life.

Someone mentioned Stillwater and how well they involve their youth in the high school program. Under new leadership this year, White Bear will be making a better effort to involve its girls youth players by providing them free admission to the high school games throughout the season.

As a parent of a player from White Bear (and knowing these kids) my position is that from a competitive stand point it can be exceptionally tough...and you’re deceiving yourself if you think otherwise. Your kids grow and develop together. They (you) build personal bonds and friendships and can only imagine... what if. However, from an individual perspective (and as friend) I have to say “more power to them” and I would support their decisions to the end, no matter what happens. We have to remember that sports are merely an activity…and self worth and identity should not be derived from how competitive your team is in regards to wins and losses, or championships for that matter…but measured by how much effort each individual player gives and how well you can play as a team…which ever team that is. If you knew me you would know someone that is as competitive as they come…even to a fault. Nothing would give me more pleasure then to see my daughter win a High School State Championship. Never the less watching these girls mature into their own…to become the best students and athletes that they can be, is way more significant then any title…and if they (family) feel that this can best be achieved by going else where… then who am I to judge? All I can do is wish them the very best….and continue to imagine… what if.
