Also, I thought Putney and Hoffman looked rock solid on the blue line and Owen Collette was stellar until his shutout was blown late in the third. I was also impressed with the sophomore Brandon Wahlin, he and Max Birkenbine have some serious potential.

Agreed. And I also think that Swanson will dominate this year. He was clearly the best player on the ice against Century. Give the sophomores a little time and they'll be major contributors for the Bears.

Typical Bears Team

This will be a typical bears team. They will look great one game, and the next fans will wonder what team showed up! I think they have potential, yet the team will find a way to blow the games they should win! I hope Im wrong! With three coaches which were all "head coaches" Long-Stillwater, Nitti- Mounds View and Sager The head, you would think they could finally get something done!

From what I hear they have shedded the dead weight and bad attitudes and are looking pretty good. The young guys will take a while to get up to speed and this may cost them some games early but by the end of the year they will be fighting with Hill for a section title.

i agree with that.. they looked a little rusty in their first game vs. century but give them a couple games and they'll be ready to go. i think this weekend against fargo south and the spuds will be good for the bears.

you know i gotta say.everyone says the bears started out rusty, which is explainable. i dont think there is a team out there that didnt start out rusty on their first game.it took hill a while to score until they did late in the first. beginning of the season is always hard, and it will be for every team. but i gotta give these kids credit for comin out at home and puttin up 7. my prediction? this team will make it far in sections, and further in state

Yeah yeah yeah, does it really matter how good or not the Bears are, whenever they get to State they lay an egg, look it up, they have a tough time getting past the first round and have never won a championship for all the years they have been in it. After SSP they are the most pathetic tourney team ever. But hey who knows...GO BEARS!!

Wolters and Wahlin alone are worth the price of admission !

Wolters and Whalin? what are you talking about? sure they are both great players, but waht about putney, swanson, lowell, and hoffman. you clearly dont know much about this team.

the seniors are definately worth the price of admission...but the future stars to watch are Wolter,Gjerde, Birki, and Whalin.

WBl should have a good team this year. They're probs the favorites in the sec but it should be close between them and woodbury. As for section 4aa they're definatley underdogs to hill but they gotta win sometime. I think if white bear loses to hill during the season they will win the section because that season loss will just add to the fire of how much they want to beat the pioneers and emotion is a huge factor come section time

they will most likely lose to hill and woodbury early. Counting on young guys early will cost them some games but by section time they will have a shot. Hill may be better than they were last year and I don't know if anyone will beat them this year. with the tough schedule the bears could be 2-5 or 3-4 come christmas. By section time they will be much improved .

Ok, am I missing something here or what? They go to Fargo, start out slow, and end up getting beat. Then they cross the river, and basically decide to play the last 7 mins of the game, and at least try to make it close before the spuds pop in a couple goals? Im no profit, but what I said earlier sure seemed to ring true... "Typical White Bear Team" and again it is.

Im not going to single out any kids, because Im above that, but let me tell you some of the kids listed as "Kids to watch" are surely not on my list. A few are way overrated, and hopefully with time, the others will pull their weight!

And.... finally, what the heck is the deal with two captains, and two asstnts... Little much dont you think... nearly 25% of your team wearing a letter... hmmmmmm... dont get it!

Sager definitely went over the top when assigning captians this year. Pasma??honestly?? I mean I'm fine with Swanson and maybe Hoffman and Wolter, but wouldn't you think Putney is more deserving?

A lot of questions about this Bear team will be answered against Woodbury Friday night.

Rumor is both Putney and Lowell were offered captain. As far as being a "typical White Bear team" I'd have to agree with that, and stick with what I said earlier: there will be some surprising outcomes of regular season games, both wins and losses.

Honestly, just by judging by the Moorhead game. They were overrated and seemed to be a combination of a lot of average or above average players. Owen Collette wasn't as impressive as I thought he would be.

well it could also be that the bears have a lot of leadership...i dont think 4 is too many...but i do agree that pasma should not be one!

but yes i do believe that is true that both lowell and putney turned down sagers offer.

Another disappointing season - especially with all the pre-season hype on the Bears.

On another note, since the Bears went 25-3-3 in the '04-'05 season, they are now averaging 10 losses per season (over the last four years. 39 losses in that period (2005-'06 to this season).

My mother was a smart lady. She used to say, "If you can't say something nice about somebody, don't say anything at all". Given your propensity to come on this board and spew negativity about all things White Bear, it is obvious you never learned this lesson. Why is that, MD? Is it lack of parental guidance, or just a deeply ingrained character flaw?

Your nonsensical post is a far too premature indictment of the Bears. I would suspect that if the Bears win the Section, and go to State, no one in Bearland will consider this season a disappointment. And, if the Bears accomplish this goal, they will have done it without recruiting, without awarding scholarships worth some $10,000 a year, and without having 20% of the team suspended for illegal drug activity.

So, MD, instead of your incessant bashing, why not use some of the energy you expend on this board to affect a positive outcome somewhere. For example, you could implement a DARE program over at Larpenteur and Century. That might do some good.

I would like to see WBL beat Hill to go to state for once. But then I hope Tartan beats WBL after that. :D :D :D

Your criticism is rather thin and unpersuasive.

If you're going to criticize a team for failing to live up to "preseason hype," perhaps you should base it on "hype" by known and knowledgeable hockey observers, such as Kevin Gorg, Doug Johnson of "Let's Play Hockey," etc., not anonymous posters to an online bulletin board, many of whom are still in high school.
