Any impressions from the Moorhead/Tonka scrimmages?

Watched Tonka beat the Spuds 3-0. Breck beat em 5-0.

Think it's gonna be a loooooooong season for Spud fans (but the Tater-Haters will love it!).
Just for your information, two of Moorhead's best defensemen never played a series all weekend. It made a difference.
It probably did make a difference if it's true but I bet Minnetonka, Burnsville and Breck were playing different people, too & they looked better.

Been a Tater fan since 1991 & sure hope you're right.

Morgan7 wrote:So doubleeagle, you seem to follow the spuds. What is the situation with Moorhead's Offense, D, and Goalies?
Well Morgan I also follow the spuds fairly close and I will say that the speed with our forwards will become a big factor in games. The three Seniors to watch out for are Alex Altenbernd, Jordan Doschadis, and Trent Johnson. Johnson and Altenbernd are two out of the three captains. Our entire second line will be made up of Juniors that also dressed last year with the Varsity. In addition to that, two of those Juniors played a few minutes as Freshman. We also have 4 solid defenseman, including another senior captain, Jason Strand. Our goalie started last year as a Sophomore. I would expect a big year from him. I hope I answered your question, and if I didn't either ask doubleeagle, or respond to this and ask me more. Also, glad your keeping the Spud spirit alive.

Which Juniors played as Freshman, Moorhead has not had a freshman in their lineup in some time.

Our toughest tests at the begining of the season will be of course Roseau, Duluth East, and our first game in the Schwans Cup is against Edina, so after those games than we can judge how the season will go. I for one agree with doubleeagle when he says that pre-season scrimmages don't mean anything. A lot of the kids that played with the "varsity group" won't even play a minute in a regular season game.
Nice Schedule!
I hope 218 is not discounting White Bear & Grand Rapids, prior to the first Roseau game... Couple of nice squads as well...
Man, I have to had it to the Spuds, tough schedule
White Bear, Rapids, Roseau (2), Wayzata, Tonka, Centennial, Scwanns games, Jefferson & Hill
Holy Hanna

One thing for sure they will be prepared for Sections and possibly State...
I also can see Fargo South and Buffalo beating Moorhead, if you're saying that the other teams you didn't list were free wins.

Ok - might explain why they allowed 8 goals in 2 hours. Still makes for a Loooooooong season if you don't score any !

No, no free wins were in my note, Buffalo and South are good teams as well, which makes the schedule that much harder...

Although Buffalo just got spanked by current #1 Edina 11-4, but that may be that Edina is just that good :!:

Just thought the Spuds have a hard schedule this year...

Well, their first game is against South on Tuesday. You'll see then how their season will shape up.

There is nothing new with this schedule they have played almost that same schedule for almost 6 years. Wayzeta was added about two years ago, and tonka was added this year those are pretty much the only recent additions. Has it helped them in state the previous years??????
