The classic excuses aren't registering in my brain as something that would explain why.
And relevent to this topic, i will take the Hounds 5-2
Last time I checked we don't go down there to play A teams. This is the Schwans Cup it's just how the draw shook out.
Alright, gotcha.
Didn't realize it was the christmas tourney.

Moorhead is pretty good this year... I was at the Spuds/DE game and DE made the Spuds look pretty bad... VERY impressed with the Hounds..across the board... SOLID.. this is a shutout for the Hounds... I say 4-0...

i'm convinced it will be a low scoring game... so i would say maybe 3-1 or 4-2 in East's favor only because there defense is playin well (including goaltending).. Breck wont be able to compete at that level for all of 3 periods and East will probably where them down and poke in a few

East has given up 3 goals all year, it will be hard to score two on them, but not impossible.

Just a note about mnhockeyhub, tardy has 12 points and only 2 on pp and 2 on pk, yet is even on the year in +/-. East has only given up 3 goals on the year, making him at least+5.

Easts stats do not have all pertinant information. There has been almost no +/- reported through any scoresheet all year. There also was not any penalty minutes listed anywhere for the Moorhead game.

Papa Bergundy wrote:MN Greatest I could be wrong, but how is Breck a young team? The core of this team is all Juniors and Seniors [like any other team in the state] and all of them are 2nd and 3rd year varsity players so I wouldn't call them young. More like underacheiving, and they don't have any good excuses.
According to mshsl.org Breck has 2 seniors 13 juniors 3 sophomores and 3 freshmen. Whereas East has 10 seniors 9 juniors 9 sophomores and 0 freshmen. Now I do realize that that would mean that East has 28 listed so a couple of those > senior players are not going to be on the bunch. All that said Breck clearly has a young team compared to East. Also, I feel these numbers clearly show a young team. The point made that many of the Stangs juniors are varsity experienced is a good one, but they still are a young team.

Agreed.
DE will beat up and expose the Mustangs for what they are...........a highly overrated group.
DE..........in running time.

East will be without Forbort since he'll be playing in the world junior tourney, so it will be interesting to see how much of a difference that will make. He logs a lot of ice time as one of East's top D.

East -4
Breck -1

I am with Papa Burgandy, the Breck team has Wally's last recruiting class and all the juniors have been playing (and hyped) since their freshman year. I saw them play Mahtomedi, it was scary bad. The defence is not good, the power play is straight from squirts, and the coach seems to be a deer in the headlights.

On the otherhand, I saw the DE/Centen game. The speed and quickness was at a different level. The DE defence will shut down the Breck "Scorers" with little effort--mainly because several haven't ever thought that a pass could actually lead to a goal! Centen also has some kids that can play and probably will well into March.

This is a blow out. Even if DE comes out flat and Breck is at the top of their game. In that case, DE out coaches Breck by 4 goals.

I take DE 9-0.

Pucker,

First off, the Mustang defense may not be great, but it is substantially better than your spelling. "defence"?

I agree that East should win this game as long as they don't get too caught up in this boards over confidence.

Agreed that the coaching to this point has been a bit questionable and that the boys haven't come together just yet. But they are deep with talent and speed, not to mention above average goaltending which means they can play with anyone (including the mighty Hounds) on any given night. The winner of this game wins the Silver.

Not if it's Breck!

But then again, we're talking about an extreme unlikelihood, here. The kind of unlikelihood that is typically brought on strictly by divine intervention.

I don't think it will make much of a difference if Forbort is gone. In one of the first games East played, Forbort, Arbour, Williams, and McLean (the top D's) were in the box at the same time, and the other team still didn't score. So I don't think it will matter, and Williams had to sit out a game, and it didn't matter. Even though Forbort is a big part of the D-core, the other talented D's can pick up the slack.

I think it will be a little closer than expected. 9 goals?? c'mon now. East only put up 11 on Central. Breck is a solid, fast team with a pretty good goalie so i think they will hang tough.
East wins 4-2

i say 6-1, the breck team will score after the DE team starts putting in their 3rd and 4th liners. They will start to do this after it is around 4-0 about 6 minutes into the first period. So the DE 3rd and 4th liners take on brecks 1st and 2nd liners 2-1.

I know what you mean, but East's 3rd line of Schendel, Lutzka and Olson is a key line for the Hounds and has a good amount of points this year.
Hopefully Meyers and Kotter will get some playing time.

Wow. I hope the Hounds aren't as over confident as all the North Country posters on this board or they may decide to sleep in and send out the JV instead.

Some of these comments remind me of the old Saturday Night Live skit about Ditka and "Da Beers" projecting ridulous wins. :P

Meh. It's not overconfidence if you can back it up. :P

You assume too much. =;
Personally, I am hundreds of miles from the "North Country" so my prediction wasn't a "homer" exaggeration.
Some folks merely realize how overrated Breck is. Those little Breck guys simply cannot skate with DE. It's really that simple.

1-1 after 1. Breck started out pretty gritty but East is just outmanning them at this point.
