If the coach doesn't have any say in their schedule then who does?

I may be wrong here, but isn't it between the coach, AD, and trying to convince other (better) schools to schedule games (sign contracts) with your school. Some of these smaller schools get the shaft because they were very poor for a while and no Great caliber teams wanted to play them. When they have a stretch of good teams they still have contracts with other schools and there are schools that don't want to pick them up. As a large school rich in hockey tradition, you are probably not going to take some of your 25 games and make contracts with teams that may only be on a one to two year stretch.

COULD NOT AGREE LESS.
We will always remember this team and this year. I hope of course they do win the title, but if not that's life, and only one team a year is the champ. That does not take away from the accomplishments of this team over the last 4 to 5 years. This group has set the standard for Little Falls hockey and proves to all the younger players in the youth program that with hard work anything is possible, and that you don't have to be from the Cities or the Iron Range to make it to State and be competitive for a Title.

Hmmmm....
Teams without a title (Since 2000)
SCC
Duluth Marshall
Virginia
Hibbing
SSP
Mahtomedi
Roch. Lourdes
Red Wing
Totino Grace
I Falls
Edina
Cloquet
Grand Rapids
Minnetonka
White Bear Lake
Bloomington Jefferson
ETC.
The list could go on and on, what my point is I HAVE heard of these teams and DO remember these teams as great teams even though they have not won a championship. Just a thought!
Actually Totino Grace won the state title in 2002 so check again.

YES Who ever won that game last night had a very good chance at winning state!! Alex plays 3 lines the whole game and little falls played mostly 2 you could tell in that 3rd and ot periods alex plane out worked them. Its to bad alex first line center broke his collor bone early in that first period then ontop of that the best player on the team gets a checking from behind and is nearly out for half the game....Congrats to the flyers, good luck at state!! represent this section well

it's not sour grapes...i am a SCC fan, listening to little falls fan and thier complete lack of any hockey knowledge made me throw up in my mouth a little....their schedule is weak! they will be fun to watch at state, i am just sick of people annointing them as the best team, they are not yet...i see the trainwreck coming like it did for roseau in 08!

Well when I was watching I seen the third line out there for the Flyers in the whole game. I couldn't believe that they were even out there at the end of the third and even during OT.

yes, it's a cliche, but it's been said that the good teams creat their own luck.
Good luck to the Flyers, and to all the other teams in the tourney.

what are you gonna say if LF wins the Class A title?? They'll have to beat Warroad!

ENOUGH WITH THE WEAK SCHEDULE EXCUSES.....LF is legit, 3 wins against alex, one over cathedral, and one over virginia is decent to me. I don't care who you play, 28 straight is pretty damn good.

Go undefeated all year, make it to state, and people are still whining.
Nice thread.

deucereppin,
you are right, "28 straight is pretty damn good" but it doesn't prove you are the top team unless you play top teams. They aren't "excuses," they're "reasons," big difference.
An excuse would be saying that Warroad should be seeded over Cathedral because they had an off game head to head.
A reason would be saying that Cathedral should be seeded over Warroad because they won head to head.
Little Falls having a soft schedule is a reason they shouldn't be seeded #1 if St Thomas makes it.
An excuse would be that Little Falls shouldn't have to schedule better teams to prove themselves.
SPUDHOCKEY,
no one would say that. that is why they play the tourney. you use the games teams play during the regular season to seed them, then they play. It is very possible Little Falls is the best team in the state. They simply haven't proven it yet with their schedule.
Jefferson showed why we cannot crown teams before they prove themselves

The thing is neither team has won or will win the state championship unless they play better teams during the regular season. I'd pick Breck, STA, Warroad and Cathedral over Little Falls.
This LF team would put those FF teams into RT! I played against them and they were good but not like this. Little Falls already beat SCC this year and from what I heard handled Warroad in a scrimmage in the beginning of the year. I know one cant take much from those except that they competed well and held their own, so don't jump all over me for saying that. So we know that they definitely can compete and beat those teams. It will be interesting to see what happens next week for sure. They also beat Virginia early in the year as well. having saying this I believe that Breck and and STA would be 'tough" games for LF. Let's see what happens
Little Falls has a great team this year, no doubt about it. I would have to argue that this LF team would put any of "those FF teams" into running time, there were years that they were not that good at all, but a lot of those teams competed pretty well. They, however didn't win a championship in 7 years. Detroit Lakes didnt' win a championship in 2 tries before that, this we know. The comparison to the past champions of this section though is interesting. Detroit Lakes, Wadena, Fergus Falls(a couple of their teams)..and Little Falls this year and past 4, they all had one super line, decent goaltending and a strong supporting cast, who could play physical. None of them have a state championship though. What is so much better about this team than them is: their top line and star player are better than any of the past champions of this section. And They have succesfull experiences against some top teams.
For the majority of this year I had absolutely no doubt that Little Falls was on their way to the State Championship, if any team out of this section ever had a shot it is this one. I was, however a little dissapointed in their play in the last two games. They didn't completely dominate as they have in past post seasons, and that's what I had figured they would do this year, they didn't and now I don't know if the Flyers will be in the championship game or even the semi's, they are NOT peaking at the right time of year. Hopefully they can turn it around and win one...we'll see.

The difference between this year and the last few is that ALEX was a great team! Very worthy of state themselves. two very good teams in that section this year. Very different from the past

It is definitely better to be "lucky, overrated, and have a crap schedule", and go to state, than to choke in the section championship......

its no excuse, i am sick of the worship this team gets, they looked brutal last night...i hope they have to play cathedral in state, SCC would mop up with them this time around. i watched both section final games..one team is ready for state, and well...one team relies too much on a first line that excells against a crappy schedule
I think this person who started this thread is not representing Cathedral very well. Usually a classy and
smart group. Here is a little history lesson on the WEAK LF schedule. 5-4 win over SCC, 3 wins over a top class A team in Alex, a 1-0 win over another state tournament team in Virgina, a 5-0 win over a very good New Prague team and finally the most impressive of them all a 10-2 (yes 10-2) win over St. Cloud Tech ( a team who tied Cathedral, Moorhead and Roseau (including a OT loss). Do not bash this team. They have worked very hard and deserve the credit and #1 seed.

Little falls got lucky, got lucky, what 28 times this year. they don't deserve this, they had one heck of a good season, anybody goes undefeated is simply awesome. and they did beat some quility teams, unless you all don't think scc or alex or virgina are good clubs just remember you haters [don't hold in a fart because it will travel up your spine into your brain and make you think some shi**y thoughts]
