Until we know if White Bear will have a legit goalie next year, I wouldn't put them top 5. And I don't know that Edina should be that low either... even though they are losing a lot of talent, they also have a lot of talent to choose from every year.

Assuming everyone stays:

1: Eden Prairie-Leddy is a huge loss but the sophomores will only get better, which is scary to even think about

2: Minnetonka-Coatta is a pretty big loss but the return of Gardiner and Prochno, 2 of the state's top juniors, more than makes up for it

3: Jeffeson-losing Siiro, LaBombard, and O'Connor hurts, but returning an great core in Herbert, Pauluk, and Faust

4: BSM-Pat Borer is a big loss but will have, IMO, the best goalie in the state in Meyers along with the excellent forward Patterson next year

5: Woodbury-not even mentioned yet, I'm surprised. only 4 seniors this year, and the only notable loss is Pittman. return of Gaede, Hyland, and Ness sets this team up for another conference championship

6: Hill Murray-biggest loss is Zepeda, which will hurt, but really learned how to play as a team this year, which will really help them out next year

7: Breck-only lose 2 seniors (Rehkamp, Herd) and return a whole lot of talent from this year's state championship team, including Fulton, Morin, both Borers, and an excellent goaltender in John Russell

8: Blaine-lose quite a few seniors, Frischmon being the best, but return the best sophomore in the state in Bjugstad and a solid netminder in Harper

9: Holy Angels-loss of Mattson will really hurt, as will Haeg, but the Reilly twins will step it up for their senior years and make this a solid team

10: Hopkins-lose quite a few seniors but return 2 top notch forwards in Boyd and Skalbeck as well as one of the states top goalies in Fons

Which of the 3 sophomores will attend East Ridge next year? All the Juniors get to remain at Woodbury for their senior years so that is not a factor. They should be a very competitive team next year though.

I believe Pederson is the only sophomore headed to East Ridge, but I am not sure on that at all. I know Turner will stay at Woodbury for sure.

Sorry WBL won't even make top 20 all year. Tartan will be up there but I think AHA is way too high.

EP, BSM, Hill(kills me to say it), Tonka(if everyone stays), Woodbury are all going to be major players next season

I don't think Edina will be as bad as everyone thinks they will be. Of course they are losing their key players. But their are still a lot of young players on that team including 12 returning players. 7 forwards will be returning including Sit and Taft who have been in the shadows of the senior class this year. Also Everson and Jarret are very solid defense men that will be returning. I also believe Girard will be in net next season over Ankeny who did struggle in the State Tourney. Edina will have a down year but they will still be a top 10 team.

BSM goaltender is good but proved that he can't do by himself. He really missed last season's defensive corps.

Red Knights might need to find a better "team" guy to lead the team.

You say "only" as if that isn't a significant loss. Much like the EP debate about how much losing Leddy will hurt, I wonder how the Reillys and co. will play without Mattson. My top 10 shakes out like so:

1. EP- You gotta give the champions their respect. They earn this number one ranking until someone proves otherwise.
2. Minnetonka- Only lose one player that contributed consistently in Sam Coatta. While he is a very big player, a team that returns 6 defenseman and a Mr. Hockey canidate in Gardiner will be very dangerous.
3. Centennial- Lose a couple of huge stars in Pitlick and Hess, but goaltending and a strong D core come back for the Cougars. Don't underestimate Lovick either.
4. Duluth East- Another team losing some key players. However, I think with Forbort at the helm the Hounds will be just fine. Had a very nice Bantam A and JV team this year, should be able to fill in lost talent.
5. BSM- Lose solid players, but return the meat of the team. Only real loss on the blueline is Borer. Alot of this ranking is speculating that their young talent continues to progress.
6. Jefferson- Lose a solid line of seniors, but like most teams in the top 10, return the cream of the crop. Hopefully their final game of this season was no sign of their overall ability. Will goaltending be an issue?
7. Woodbury- I'm not really looking anything up, but I think they lose Tony Pittman, a very solid forward. However, they return more than they lose and I don't forsee them "dropping the soap" again in secionals.
8. Wayzata- Had to throw the hometown team in the top 10. I like the talent they return, top two defenseman and a couple lines of forwards. Interested to see if any sophomores from the Bantam A champions step in and make a difference.
9. Blaine- The Blaine Bjugstad's are poised for another run at the title. I moved them down plenty of spots since they lost some key players from last year's team. However, I see them rebounding nicely and putting together a nice season.
10. Hill-Murray- I had a tough time picking the 10th spot, as I think many teams were worthy. However, I went with my heart [literally] and picked the feel good story of the year. Sorry to kick a dead horse, but I think the events this year showed the heart of the kids, and the effectiveness of the program. Great coaching along with dedicated players will always make Hill a contender in my mind.

Other teams worth mentioning:

Edina- Will the exodus of top talent break them or simply turn to a new page?
Holy Angels- I simply think Mattson was what kept them above the 10 spot
Moorhead/Roseau- Is the curse of Ness officially over or will Roseau be back on top next year?
Cretin- I go with my gut a lot and my gut tells me this team overacheived this year. And I don't see a repeat performance
White Bear Lake- Well, you know.
Hopkins- Boyd leaving or staying will make or break this team. My "gut" tells me he's gone.
Elk River- A team I'm not very familiar with, but started making some noise towards the end of the season. Maybe someone else can update you on their squad for next year.

Criticize respectfully, these are all just my opinions, and I'm entitled to 'em.

PS I didn't do any fact checks so if I made a mistake just point it out please

PSPS I'm not making any attempt to be the new "karl". Just another forum poster with nothing better to do now that the season's over.

Hey, you're more ambitious than I am here...I'm not going to try to them at this point. Good work.

I'll chime in on my own team and say that East is probably too high. Even if Forbort comes back there are a lot of holes to fill. That isn't to say they won't be good, but I expect them to take some time to come together next year.
