Dornbach IS hometown. He has coached for many years in Edina at Squirt A Level.

It will be interesting to see what this topic will be like in 2 years when both of there kids will be trying out for the Bantam A team. I have a feeling there will be many opinions then. Will they bring outside graders in that year? Seems to me that Rahn would have been the logical choice here since we are not to far away from this controvery

Have to agree that I'm also so happy to be done with Association politics. Seems to go on in every town. No horse in the race (or town), but just can't believe it's a good idea to have parent coaches at Edina's Bantam A level. I have heard the old coach - Donelly - was not well liked - but from what I heard, at least he didn't have a kid in the program. I don't think the PWA coach has a kid in the program either (and have heard he is not only well liked but well respected and has had many state championship teams unlike Edina Bantams and Edina HS).

I'm a big fan of non parent coaches at the A levels. Even if the coaches' kids are good enough to make the team, you have the kid's friends, parent/coaches' friends along with lines combinations and power plays that get affected and the judgement can be cloudy. Time will tell if this is a big mistake for Edina's youth hockey program.

Maybe there was a lack of qualified non-parent coach applicants. It appears that there are several BA coaching positions open this year.

It is interesting how many of the BA coaching jobs opened up this year. Bantam A is the level where it seems more parents get pushy and drive good coaches away. It would be interesting to find out how many BA jobs were lost this year and how many were nonparent coaches. It seems that some powerful association parents can't handle a nonparent coach who plays the players based on their skills rather than who their parent is and the next thing you know, the coach is gone.
