Well he does have a point Gino Guyer was the last single A player to win it...Hanowski broke the point record last year and still didnt win it. Youre going to have to be prettty darn good if you can win it as a single A player, and I doubt Brock Nelson will win it
Guyer played for Greenway which was a AA school the year he won the award. Johnny Pohl was the last winner from a Class A school, Red Wing in '98.
Lee
Thanks for the correction Lee (which further proves the point)

To further prove the point, Pohl was the only Class A winner since the split in 1992. In other words, it's a real longshot. Not that there haven't been worthy candidates from Class A schools, but there is a perception out there...

Nelson is the best NHL Prospect in the state. The scouts who vote on this vote for who they like not who had 68 goals in a game like Hanowski. also there is no one to make this a close race....but i guess we will see

I think NHL scouts are also quite intrigued and impressed with the young Mr. Bjugstad from Blaine. Having seen him play recently at Model Camp, he was quite impressive and he continues to grow. I believe he was listed at 6'4" and 185lbs on the Model Camp roster. I heard as well that he will be accelerating his schooling, and if that is the case, I believe he will be the front runner for Mr. Hockey next season.

25 Sheet Power, I'm from Warroad and would like to see him win the award but class A doesn't get the respect that class AA does and therefore neither do the players. If T.J. Oshie didn't win it when he was at Warroad I don't see Nelson winning it this year.

Brian Lee was the Better NHL Prospect at the time.

But its not only about who is a better pro prospect. Aaron Ness won the award over Jake Gardiner but Gardiner was the better prospect. Its not just NHL scouts that vote. Its also people in the media who argue that a class A hockey team is no better than a class AA jv team.

Warroad is as good as any class AA team--everyone who has a clue knows that. They also know that Warroad should have opted up to AA a looooong time ago.
I also thought that Oshie should have been Mr. Hockey that year...

Why? Because he was big?

As for Mr. Hockey, the scouts vote for the best high school hockey player. Sometimes the best high school hockey player happens to be the best NHL prospect.

The best players don't always go in the right order. I have never heard a anybody say anything derogatory of Oshies play. That's saying a lot since I'm from Roseau. I have rarely heard anyone agree with the hype surrounding Brian Lee. Time will tell is the saying and it already has. Lee will be flipping burgers soon and Oshie is considered one of the cornerstones the Blues are going to build their franchise around. Oshie was the better prospect, the Senators were idiots. If that's not clear enough for you Lawton went ahead of LaFontaine.

Oshie was a stud in high school and college. Appears he is heading down the same road in the NHL.

Exactly, and he still didn't win Mr. Hockey. There won't be any one who wins it from Class A in the near future

I would say that Nick Bjugstad is the front runner, he has a solid all around game.

I dont in any way think they were right. But the scouts who vote for mr hockey thought Lee was better then oshie, at that time.
