But he also added that the Hill Murray back up last year played AAA in Wisconsin and came back, Basil something i think his name is, hes awaiting approval from the MSHSL to play. He said he looked much stronger than the other too in their pre season scrimmages in Elk River. But he is not practicing with team currently until he is approved, if he is at all. Not bashing on white bear at all, maybe i'm wrong, but both goaltenders had 0 varsity experiece. Looks like both goals split the Rochester Century game. 3 goals on 24 shots, we'll see how they play against a stronger team
preseason what???? i don't believe he played against anyone except during tryouts? he couldn't have played "stronger" at elk river, he wasn't there. no way... he's not practicing and not playing yet that much is certain. he isn't eligible, if one was stronger in elk river it was jordan or schletty

Should be a good game. The bears have looked pretty good so far this season dispite the loss of goaltending. Schletty and Jordan are stepping up and filling in to make a difference in between the pipes. Wahlin, Jansen, and Birkenbine are extremely talented and should be able to bank a couple goals in on Hill. It just depends on how well the 2nd and 3rd lines can "defend" and contribute. Penalties would kill their chances, as Hill PP is effective. If WBs Defense can step up and keep HM to the outside, they will have a close game.
The Pioneers are a very talented group that has a large number of returners because of the issue last year. They have some really talented forwards who can score - Bahe, Faust, Bruchu, Walsh, to name several. Their defense have experience and wear 2 of 3 Captain patches. It will be tough for WB to get by the likes of Johnson and Casto. And to top it off they have a solid goalie in Shaughnessy. However, it is likely that they get two on him.
Between Hills D and Goalie.. I don't think White Bear will get more that 2. And White Bears goalies are playing well, but HM is a tough team to play against. Aldrich will be packed, and most first timers either feed of it or get nervous... I say they get nervous and Hill get 2 or 3 pretty early. And the final score is 5-2.

This is the kind of contribution people need to make to a WBL vs Hill thread. Thank you for analyzing the full situation and making a logical prediction. None of the "Whyte Bear sux adn pieoners r g8." or "Hil Murrey recruts all ther playerz."
As for me, I'll take my Bears in a 4-3 upset. My reasoning? None, I'm just a psychic.

White Bear split 1-1 with CDH the two previous years, and is ranked two above WBL on FTP and the hub. Hill Murray will not be playing CDH as usual, unless some state tournament play happens.
Don't get too excited Hank.

HM definitely has some experience at D, and the forwards are always far more talented than any other team four lines deep but they are running with some small/inexperieinced but the top two lines will carry them and the others won't hurt them, but the G as a strength?? you are kidding right? That is their only weak spot. Every decent team last year scored 4-5 goals on us despite being outshot by quite a bit and remember Richfield? ouch, that was all goalie and may go down as the most embarrassing loss ever, they didn't have but a few decent chances at best and Stillwater only made it close because of some very weak ones. Good goalies give their team a chance to win, this one has given the other teams more chances to win games they shouldn't. Someone goalie guy last year mentioned how weak he was stick side, so i watched it quite a bit, and that's the side were most goals went in on fewer chances.
I don't think the bears will be ready though, and is that berkenbine kid playing? they never seem to play well against hill early, but come playoffs they are always tough and this year with the offense they might have??? I think it'll be hm, simply because they are more focused and disciplined than most teams early on, but as the season builds others tend to get closer to playoffs that's why the bears are always difficult in the playoffs, but the bears might show some offense this year, I wouldn't make any bets against them, they have pure goal scorers this year several and they are only going to be as weak as their own discipline, effort and attitude and that might take until Feb to develop. They may or may not lack goaltending, big unknown for them, if they play well, this could be their year but no one knows what to expect of them.
I think wb has the offense and experience to match hm this year, they are at least equal in nets, but the hm D is very experienced and though I don't know much about the wb D, I doubt they are at the same level. If the wb scorers put on a show, watch out, otherwise the edge goes to hm's d which wins games, though anything can happen in one game.

You missed the point, someone calls G a strength? it isn't, every team gets some weak goals but for hm that happens when you get 30+ shots and many high quality ones and out shoot the opp 2 and 3 to 1. A Goalie that is a strength needs to win games they shouldn't, or not lose games they shouldn't, and not give the other team a chance. It simply isn't a position of strength, that was my point.
They lost double digit games for the first time since??? mostly due to weak goals, not lack of four players, they still out shot almost every team by a wide margin and lost many. The bad games outweigh the good. The point was this is not a strength for the team. He's a year older maybe better but it needs to be proven, unlike some forwards and defense that have proven to be a strength.

Birkinbine will be returning for the Duluth East tilt this weekend I believe.
As for Hills goal tending, Shaugnessy hasn't looked that strong so far this year. I think that HM's forwards and D have kept their team in the game more than their tending and I think WBLs fluid goal scorers will be able to put enough past him.
WBL's top D both have at least 3 years experience, and the lower lines have a bit too. Freshman D Lance Carney(sp?) has looked pretty solid so far this year, and sophomore RJ Majkozak, while small in stature, hits pretty dang hard, and can handle his special team position pretty well.
WBL's goaltending has been questionable before the the season, but sophomore Jared Schletty has done a decent job between the pipes. It will be interesting to see how he fairs against an offensively charged team like HM. Some may argue that Roch. Century and Hastings aren't really ability proving games, I've seen him make some pretty good saves on good scoring chances.
What everyone has to remember is that this is a rivalry game. Each team wants to win. Bad. Let's see who will step up, and brings their all.
This is gonna be an epic game.

Good, i hope they are all there and on top of their game. Could be a good one. HM has some serious speed up front and conditioning tonight showed. That G spot is very questionable. I just don't think WB or most teams have the conditioning that HM has until late in the season though so they might not get to test him. I think they take this but G could cost us this year, especially that weak stick side. BSM took about 6-7 shots there and got two, one dropped in front and sat there but no one knocked it in, another hit the pipe, twice. Easily could have cost us the game should have been a shut out. Fortunately the D and F shut BSM down good after that.

My heart says the Bears, but my brains tell me HM wins this one 5-2. The Bears had their chance last year, but 5 goals on 19 shots doomed them in the Section Semi.

Jacob Meyers from Benilde is one of my favorite goalies to watch the past five years. He put on a nice show last night versus Hill. I have seen Hill twice now, in my work this year, and they pressure the puck as well as any team, and if Hill gets the 30+ shots on goal off the inexperienced WBL goaltending - can anyone expect only two Hill goals?
Versus Burnsville, Hill started off slow, but then just pounded Burnsville. I think Bodyshots is closer in his prediction.
