Just to clarify, it wasn't people, it was Happyhockeyfan only who was whining. I myself regressed and will let the players show where they deserve to be ranked, and frankly I really don't care if they are ranked or not, just happy they are playing well.

IMO, Wayzata is over rated. In the SLP tournament, they finished 2-1 in fourth place (consolation champ) with wins over two unranked opponents. Centennial was 3-0; Jefferson was 2-1; BSM was 2-1 and beat Wayzata head to head.

Centenniel was better than Wayzata in record (3-0) and in style points, beating ranked teams BSM and Jeff and beating up on unranked Woodbury more than Wayzata did.

Jeff's only loss was officially a tie (Cent won a SO) and they beat ranked MG in the semis. 2-1 with two wins against ranked teams puts jeff ahead of Wayzata.

BSM beat Wayzata head to head and dominated a ranked MG team. Only loss was to ranked Cent, who won the whole thing. 2-1 against three ranked teams, and beating Wayzata head-to-head puts BSM ahead of Wayzata.

Wayzata lost a critical seeding game to BSM, then squeaked by one unranked opponent and beat up another unranked opponent.

Based on these results, Wayzata should be behind Cent and Jeff for sure, and probably BSM, based on head to head result and their similar season records.

Edina is playing way better than they were when Wayzata beat them in game one. Its time to stop riding that victory.

Re: Wayzata

You present some pretty good evidence there, and I did go back and forth between the 5 and 6 spots with Wayzata and EP, since the Trojans didn't come out of the SLP tourney with the same fire as some of the teams around them.

They did beat Centennial 4-2 earlier this year, though. And while I agree that early games like that one and the Edina game should gradually see their importance in regards to the rankings diminish, I'm not quite ready to pull the plug on Wayzata's big early wins yet.

The good news: Wayzata plays a very strong schedule, including a game at Jefferson on Thursday. We'll find out pretty quickly where exactly they belong.

I just checked Wayzata's results on hockeyhub. They have not beaten any ranked team (by hockeyhub) since they beat Edina in November. They did beat Centennial on 12.3.09.

The highest ranked teams (by karl) they have played since are # 11 Osseo (tied) and #12 Bsm (lost).

They have not proven themselves to be a top five team.

As Karl said, they will get their chance.

Looks to be the case.

Gotta love the NWSC this time of year. Great hockey, but a nightmare to rank. Which just makes it more fun. :D

Possibly this Saturday against Apple Valley, their first real test since Jefferson.

In my opinion, Centennial and Jefferson are high based on tradition.

Centennial not by much, though, as those below them haven't proven much either. I would personally have trouble with Osseo as their only quality games are a tie and a loss, but I would give the nod to them, as their loss is to your #3 team and their tie is to your #5 team. Centennial has lost to your #13 and beat your #12.

That being said, I would have East much higher. Losses only to #2, #4, and #5. Sure a tie to Moorhead, but it's not a loss, and it's only game. Being that they beat Centennial, I'd probably have East at #7 in your rankings, right being Eden Prairie.

Jefferson. They beat and tied your #10 and lost to #8, yet they are #7. I agree, they are a good team and if they had a tougher schedule, they'd probably do well with it. But they don't.

Eagan/Jefferson right now are like St Thomas/Breck, imo; not much difference but a head to head OT game should has the winner higher.

My two cents.

In hindsight, due to the result against Elk River, Centennial definitely looks too high. As I explained in the comment, their record didn't really justify where they were, but I was rewarding them for recent accomplishments; going from a 9-2 loss to Jefferson to a 2-2 tie in the span of a few weeks suggests significant improvement, and since they beat another good team (Benilde), I felt #10 was an accurate reflection of where they belonged. I though they'd turned a corner. Looks more like they're just inconsistent now.

With Jefferson, I think you're overstating the weakness of their schedule a bit. 7 of their 10 games have been against ranked teams or the teams on the bubble I outlined in the OP. (Eagan has 4, counting the USOT; Roseau has 2; Osseo 3.) And not only has Jefferson beaten most of those teams, they've killed a number of them...9-2 over Centennial, 9-3 over LVS, 10-3 over AV. Eagan, meanwhile, has scraped by LVS 2-1 and LVN 1-0, to say nothing of the tie against Burnsville. If they can get a convincing win over Apple Valley later this week, maybe they'll have a case. But right now, Eagan's ranking is almost entirely based on that Jefferson win and an unblemished record against relatively weak competition.

Interesting that you bring up East as underrated; I too noticed the record you mentioned there, and thought that a pretty good case could be made for putting them a number of spots higher. Knowing that I'm an East fan and that I don't want to do this probably says something, either about the team or the way I view them. I'm very interested in watching the Blaine and Tonka games this week unfold. Even if East loses both, if they can stay with them, it might be grounds for moving the Hounds up a number of spots in the rankings. If they can't, I don't think they'll move.

I also didn't put a whole lot of stock in the East win over Centennial; as I said, I thought Centennial had turned a corner. Now that it appears they haven't, I'll give that win more weight, if that makes any sense.

Don't know where the thread went about happyhockeyfan being a U16 dad but at least he's not a disgruntledhockeyfan for his son not playing high school. We know how some parents can get  . Kudos to him for that. And he's not a high school dad trying to get some more publicity for his kid (I actually thought that was the case). For Eagan's sake, that's good, and hopefully they have more passionate followers like him to cheer at the games, not on this forum!

Yes my son does play for Eagan U16, your right I am not disgruntled, in fact I am very proud of him for still wanting to play after not making varsity or JV. Many kids do quit instead of playing Jr Gold. As for my comments regarding Eagan Boys Varsity hockey, I am simply a big fan and want them to be recognized. I do not understand why some seem to be bothered by this. Can someone explain?

Because you seem worried about them being recognized on a mesaage board that really has no bearing on how their season will play out. If they deserve anything they will earn it as the season plays out - on the ice - where it matters most.

This thread is for discussion regarding rankings, and thats what I was doing, discussing Eagans ranking, a couple of rankings ago I felt Eagan was slighted after a big win over Jefferson and I posted my opinion. Isnt that what this is all about, opinions? The currant rankings are more in line where I feel they should be ranked so I have kept quiet. In fact I was surprised at their #8 ranking, thought they would be more like #10 - #12.

As I stated above HHF, kudos to you for that. I truly thought you were a high school parent the way you were talking. Good luck to your son and Eagan HS as well!!

It is about discussing opinions, but you clearly noted a motive of, "getting them recognized" or whatnot which is not only about discussing opinions. More power to them and good luck to them, I simply don't think it matters. Mtka can get ranked #1 until the cows come home, it won't matter in the end if they don't play it out on the ice.

Enough already about the rankings HHF. If you would have stopped talking about it back when I suggested this wouldn't all be happening. Let the kids play and be done with the ranking talk. We ALL know where your heart is. If you're lucky enough the Eagan players will prove you right in the end. Just stop with it already!!

This is a thread about team rankings and discussing them. I will not stop discussing team rankings, however I will stop replying to your posts and replies. If you would like to discuss this further with me I will be at the next two Eagan games and being that you supposedly know who I am why dont you introduce yourself to me and we can discuss it there as we watch our beloved Wildcats dismantle Eastview and Applevalley. Go Wildcats !!
