Something tells me Lakeviewing is upset that their team lost out on Saturday and is now taking it out on section 1AA. Get over it you big baby!!!

Impressive, a guy makes a suggestion because he enjoys the playoff games and the best you can do is name call? What is even more amazing is that you are extremely upset about it using the all capital letters. Mr. potatohead, after Wednesday you might wish it was a 3 game seriesNONOTHING OUTHOUSE HAS YET TO LEARN THAT GO HOME MEANS BETTER LUCK NEXT YEAR AND QUIT COMPLAINING!
That's the key, as soon as you realign the sections other teams jump to the forefront. Leave well enough alone.Anchorland wrote:So what happens if Section 2 and Section 6 have a drop off in the future? Do we then complain that other sections should be shuffled? It is just the way it is, things change.
quitee!Lakeviewing wrote:Some how the Minnesota State Hockey League to figure out how to get the top High School hockey teams to play off in the State Tournament. This would be good for additional revenue and attendence. Sorry that Section 2 and 6 have the top rated teams. Over the past years, the metro teams have dominated. Sections 2 and 6 truely have had superior teams, but only two teams represent this section. Lets mix in some the the Section 2 and 6 teams into the other Sectional play. Teams like Burnsville, Eagan, White Bear, Anoka, Cennential, Hopkins, Woodbury and so on have very good teams, but given their sections have a tough section to play though. A Rochester, Lakeville like teams shouldn't in the Class 2AA sections.
Lou Nanne said today he expects more than 15 k for those games.Zamman wrote:The section finals bring in a ton of revenue for, what 8 venues, and some of them out-state which is good for their economy.
In the cities we get some of the best hockey of the year with the Section 2 and 6 being played at a large venue. This year they can pack 14k - 16k if that many people show up at the Target Center. Not to mention all the adults will probably hit the bars before and after the games.
In other sections they play at the Coliseum and the DECC and the RRC so they can bring people in large numbers for them. The sad part about Rochester is that the two teams most likely to make it are from Lakeville.
The state tournament, at least the AA tournament, fills for most of the whole time and does not have trouble with revenue for the building or the surrounding restaurants, with the exception of Chipotle which closes at 5 in St. Paul. If they were smart they would stay open or open a "remote" location near the X for the three days.

Or just know the every team is in the playoffs. They are the state playoffs; everyone made state.black sheep wrote:
Rename the "section finals" to State Prelims...whalla there is your sixteen team tournament and everyone is in. But maybe a #1 seed was already upset before that....hmmm
I am so happy Lakeviewing made this post. Proves he knows little to nothing about MN High School Hockey. So many errors, and I will enjoy pointing them out for you.Lakeviewing wrote:Final section playoffs always seems to be the same teams. Duluth vs Elk River, Edina vs Jefferson, EP vs Tonka, Blaine vs Centennial or White Bear, Apple Valley vs Eagan or Woodbury, Moorhead vs Rosaeau, Cretin vs anyone and Rochester Century vs anyone. All I am asking is for the Minnesota High School board to react and even the field and bring the top teams to the State Touramnent rather to react as these teams played and proved these teams won their section and deserved to play at the State tournament. Their needs to some re-organizing for section playoffs to get the top teams to State. Class AA State Tournament is missing a Burnsville, Wayzata and so on.

I agree with your point about East-Elk River, but this is the third time they've met in the 7AA finals. Besides last season, they met in 1998.curtiscurve wrote:I am so happy Lakeviewing made this post. Proves he knows little to nothing about MN High School Hockey. First: East and Elk River are meeting in the section finals for the 2nd time ever. Other teams in the finals have been Anoka, Cloquet and Grand Rapids.
Second: Edina and Jefferson, this is the 2nd time they have met in the section finals since they were put in the same section in 2002.
Third: Tonka and EP have met in the section final one other year, last year.
Fourth: White Bear is not in the same section as Centennial and Blaine. Oh and by the way, Maple Grove upset Centennial last night.
Fifth: You listed Cretin vs anyone but also listed AV vs Eagan or Woodbury. Also you forgot Rosemount was the #1 seed just 2 years ago.
Sixth: Century is not even in this years finals and they were not in it 2 years ago either.
Last but not least: You can not even spell Roseau. But you are right on this one, they are in the finals year after year.
Now, instead of crying for Burnsville and Wayzata, go do your homework and learn a bit about the sections and their history before you come on here and run your mouth.
My bad! I forgot that stint they were in 7AA between 8AA and 4AA. Either way, thanks for pointing it out.east hockey wrote:I agree with your point about East-Elk River, but this is the third time they've met in the 7AA finals. I was wondering how Lakeviewing feels about Lakeville (South or North) being only Lake conference representative (that is if Apple Valley drops their game to Woody)! It has to be eating him up inside.Lakeviewing wrote:Final section playoffs always seems to be the same teams. Attendence trivia...what mshsl game set the all time attendence record for any hockey game ever in minnesota?
The sport is already big enough in Minnesota. I wouldn't sacrifice a better hockey game to try and increase the interest in hockey. In sections 2aa and 6aa, 6 out of the top ten teams in the state play for 2 spots in the state tourney. There is a reason why those two sections play at the Target Center. It is obvious that most of the top teams in the state are getting screwed over playing other top ranked teams just to make it in the state tournament. If you would rather watch Minnetonka stomp all over teams like Apple Valley and Lakeville 10-0, then see a good hard hockey game I don't know what to think. This is the state of hockey, everyone has an interest in hockey.curtiscurve wrote:I can't even begin to express how tired I am of people coming on here and complaining how unfair it is that 6AA and 2AA have it so tough and how teams like Lakeville and Rochester don't belong in the State tournament. We have such a great thing going in the state of Minnesota with our High School Hockey and our play-off system. Sure, we could change things and make sure all the top teams make it to the tourney. Get all the large city public schools and their hated neighboring private schools to participate and leave all others behind. This would ruin all the progress we have made toward growing the sport in Minnesota. Look at all the interest the section playoffs creates in communities like Rochester, New Ulm, Duluth, Moorhead, Alexandria, Little Falls Warroad, and Roseau just to name a few. Hockey is growing and thanks to USA vs Canada, the NHL may be making a come back as well. Why would we take away the state wide excitement just to ensure that 8 cities teams make the big dance. Lakeviewings post would make Herb Brooks roll over in his grave. He was the greatest hockey ambassador to come out of this state and his mission was to provide more opportunities not less. Stop complaining and enjoy the greatest sport during its most exciting time of the year.

Sure a team from S or SW MN gets an easier ride into the tourney, but then that is life. It is good for the overall health of Minnesota hockey to let these teams come to St Paul. Good for the economy too. They are not just day trippers.
The N and NW part of the state seems easier because of fewer top rated teams, but would those living in the NW metro really want to play in against perennial powerhouse teams such as the Rams or the Spuds? Ask St Cloud.
MSHL plays with sections every couple years and there are always schools (parents?) that are happy and others upset with the changes.
In the end the strategy is rather simple you need to prepare and win your Section Final game to go to State.
