For D1 the NCAA has a 21 year old rule.

I would rather see a player be asked to play a year (or two) of juniors than have a player be asked to accelerate his schooling. As long as the opportunity/option to play juniors is available, I think there are many great advantages to a player pursuing that option - besides just the benefits offered by hockey. The majority of these players are going to be better prepared for college than someone right out of high school. It's a great option and personally I could care less if a player is 20 or 21 versus 18 years old.

Why the rush to jump to college so fast? Take some time, develop more as a player and a person, THEN go to school. I don't see the harm.

Do any of you really think kids going to D1 schools for athletics are there for the education?

Haha great retort!
From the Canadian perspective, IMO the reason some Canadians choose to play NCAA vs Major Juniors is because of their size. Every kid in Canada dreams of playing in the NHL and raising the Stanley Cup. In Minnesota every kid dreams of playing with their buddies (except private schools) and making it to the State Tourney. This is a fundamental difference in thought. The Canadian kids who are skilled but still undersized when during their draft year for MJ's (normally 14-15) often seriously consider NCAA options because they will have more time to grow and develop and the option to come in as 21 yr old Freshman. Most kids who play Major Junior are done with hockey at 20 or 21 if they don't make the pros. Now I know many of you are thinking, "They play NCAA for the EDUCATION!" Well in some cases obviously yes, but the CHL leagues (OHL, WHL, QMJHL) have very good education packages for the players set up during and after they are done playing in the league.
P.S. I realize there are many over-generalizations in this post so deal with it.

I talked to a WHL scout on sat. He said " for every year the kids play for them they get a year of school paid for" that as good as the army college fund,or G.I. Bill.

I was wondering the same thing, but this kid is the real deal. Not saying Wilcox isn't, but it is not a bad thing to have 2 #1 goalies in my opinion. It only makes them have to battle that much harder against eachother.

i think the plan was to have him play JR's all along. It'll end up the same as it is now With Kangas and Patterson, Villenau (sp) will be a Sophomore Wilcox's freshman year...
