The older I get, the more I appreciate Lou doing these telecasts. Either that or I suffer from some nostalgia thing...

How often are they going to use the cliche, "just get the puck to the net."?

Nice try Pacman. Everyone loves Lou. Even you will miss him when he's gone and we have Anthony LaPanta covering the tournament.

I was hoping someone would start this thread before me this year. Unfortunately he is a hockey tourney icon. The way I hear it. If Edina is playin they're the only ones on the ice and the vantage point of Edina is the only one. He also leans toward cities teams. It's time for a fossil to go to a museum. But there's too many Cities fans that think he's a hockey god.

Lou is the best. I miss listening to him when I'm at the games. He knows his stuff and is chock full of great stories.

I'll forgive him Brian Lawton.

He's been much less of a homer for Edina over these past 5-6 years that Edina has been back in the tournament. He's been very complimentary of top players and top teams. Phil Housley is awful compared to Lou.
Yep, agree 100%. The tourney broadcast will suffer when he's gone.

To Lou's critics: go watch the games in person. There are (unfortunately) more empty seats each year.

I don't know about that...

It depends on what teams make the State Tourney.

Class A though; you may be on to something there...

The day LaPanta starts covering the tournament is the day I turn the volume down to mute. I can put up with Housley even though he is god awful. But I cannot listen to another level of hockey being covered by LaPanta.

There is nobody that would be better suited to take over the mic, and like many others have said, he will be sadly missed when he's gone.....And I'm not a Edina fan either!

Housley on the other hand............
Precisely!!!!!!

Does anyone know if Clay Matvic is working for the SEC network now? Was flipping through channels and caught a replay and I thought I recognized his voice.

Wouldn't surprise me.

He does commentating for ESPN as well.

I love Lou to death, my family has known his since the 70's, the thing that anoys me about the way he commentates is the way he chooses one team to talk about way more than the other

Ripping on Lou Nanne? How sad is that?

Love him at the tournament. Tune him in on KFAN almost every week. He is knowledgeable and a great ambassador to the game.

Lou is a professor of hockey. Other announcers tell me what I'm seeing, as though I'm unable to process that myself. Lou teaches the game when he covers it. It wouldn't sound like the state tourney without him.

Agree, he teaches you things that you may not know.

I was able to catch it online and he was beyond excellent. In the postgame he even too the time to single out two Duluth East players that he felt would have made the all-tourney team if they didn't have to vote after the 1st period.

Seriously, anyone else they could get would strive to be half as good as Lou Nanne. I'm not saying he's irreplaceable, but the next person has huge shoes to fill and they'll be very aware of that.

Amen. I can't even imagine it. And, he does have a tendency to pick some teams but with his grandkid playing last night against Duluth East I thought he didn't clearly favor Edina as much as he has done with some teams in the past. I was a bit surprised. He is all I've known as the voice of the state tournament. The bottom line is Lou is awesome!

Also not the nicest person in the world. And before I get asked how I know this, I went to SCSU with him at the same time , same department, same major, only difference he was in TV, I was in radio. No one at the radio station sports department could stand him(were at lot of SCSU hockey games covering them)

Lou might be a legend but it is as the guy who was stupid enough to doom the Northstars by taking Brian Lawton.
Conversely, he signed an undrafted player who ended up scoring over 600 goals and is a HOFer (Cicarelli).

Agreed. Louie is a great person and hockey ambassador for this state. The true hockey fans in this state love him and respect him immensely. The people who criticize Lou either are 1. Very young and have no clue who he is. 2. Never followed or played hockey before their kids started playing. 3. Just don't like edina and associate the team with Lou.
