Who will be out of the Thursday line-up vs GR due to injury, illness, or double secret probation?

Oops, wrong thread. Meant to be GR vs DE

I suppose Randolph is really the only one who knows the true reason this match up doesn't happen.
It is certainly not because they only schedule top tier teams. A look at their schedule shows a few soft games that are not section games. But they are AA teams and I suppose that is how it is justified.
I am not saying they should or shouldn't, but it is certainly a game that most hockey lovers in the area would like to see.

I agree, but at least GR and Cloquet have kuhunas to play them :D

Not saying it wouldn't be good to see, but the reasons some in Hawk Nation put forth are ridiculous.

East and Herm. should've played one another this year. It would've been nice to see East pad their numbers against them. :P

If the Hawks continue with their winning ways, it will be difficult for East to not add them to their schedule.

East will not continue their winning ways for a while after this year.

They're the #1 team in the state right now. This statement could be made for every game they play the rest of the season...

After next year. Next years team will still be very solid. After that though, Beaulieu will be left hanging in his senior year ;)

Unless, of course, our recruiting team comes through for us.

With the cost/time of travel and the struggling economy, it would seem like a no-brainer to play a quality team that is your neighbor. In addition, these kids have played against each other at the armature level for as many as 10 years. Many of them play during the off-season on the same AAA teams, Advanced program, etc., are good friends and support each other. I don’t think they care what hockey class they are in. At games between GR, Marshall, Coquet, Hibbing, Virginia, Herm, Superior, etc., I see many players staying on the ice to talk to each other after the game. It is unfortunate that the adults have made sure that this never happens during the regular season for the Hawks and the Hounds; 2 teams that have grown up playing hockey together and know each other on a personal level better that any 2 teams in the state.

Yea if it was up to the kids I'm sure we'd have a game. But since it isn't, who knows...

East hasn't schedule either a private or Class A, aside from Denfeld, school in some time now, doubt that will change.

I don't know all the specifics of why this game doesn't happen, but the specifics aren't the issue. Like with the Marshall situation, the reasons are most likely legitimate.

That being said, why not "be the bigger man" and schedule a team that would likely be better competition, sell out most venues in the area and be a shorter drive for both teams?
Instead of driving to Hasting or Oakdale, for example, why not have two games within 10 miles of the school that would attract a much bigger crowd. For purely financial reasons, it seems silly not to.

From a competitive [hockey] perspective, the way you show people you are better than someone else is to beat them. You don't just say "playing them would prove nothing" and cite why you don't. You prove all that by playing them.

Just my two cents.

So where's the upside to playing Cambridge-Isanti?

All Hermantown would need to is step up to AA and im guessin East would play them... No need to play A teams no matter how good...

Technically, yes, but Ashland is in the LSC and we all know how that's working out. (sorry Ashland, no disrespect intended).

[quote="HShockeywatcher"]Updated 1-11-12

Bantams
20 Duluth East A 13-18-3
23 Hermantown Hawks A 12-9-1

Strength of schedule:

20 Duluth East A 13-18-3 13.14 -0.76 13.90 - (toughest in state)

23 Hermantown Hawks A 12-9-1 12.83 1.77 11.06 - (36th toughest)

If Hermantown would play a tougher youth schedule maybe they could make that step up to AA with the big boys & then East would play them for shure :o
