I think there's a pretty clear top tier. After that you'd have Wayzata, Blaine, Burnsville, and a mess of 7AA teams (Elk River, Andover, East, Grand Rapids).
If nothing else, you are loyal to your roots.
Agreed. 7AA will a mess next year. Maybe not a top 5 team in there, but all 4 of those teams, and possibly Cloquet could all be in the top 15.
These are the Banram A computer rankings done on http://myhockeyrankings.com/rank.php?y=2009&a=b&v=166

Rank - Team - Record - Rating
1. Duluth East A 59-12-1 15.70
2. Minnetonka Skippers A 42-12-1 15.19
3. Woodbury Royals A 63-5-3 15.15
4. Edina Hornets A 29-14-2 15.02
5. Osseo Maple Grove A 50-11-1 14.29
6. Wayzata Trojans A 31-20-0 14.10
7. Burnsville Blaze A 38-15-3 14.05
8. Eden Prairie Eagles A 24-19-3 13.96
9. Grand Rapids Thunderhawks A 40-11-2 13.84
10. Eagan Wildcats A 42-16-3 13.67

Cloquet was 21 (top line was all underclass this year), Andover 17 (but if their tender comes back they are going to be a threat on any night), and Elk River was a bit further down but their Soph class finished 6th in these rankings.

I would say Karl is probably spot on with his assessment. I might add Roseau to the 2nd tier as they seem to have a good mix of players from these two groups (2-50 point sophs and top 4 scrorers return)

If I remember correctly Woodbury won the Bantam A State Tourney and lost to East in the VFW Championship 8-1.

Right...so they'd be next year's senior class.

For the record, this past summer I made a spreadsheet of this site's Bantam A rankings going back the past few years to see how close the relationship between bantams and high school teams is. Obviously there are a lot of things that can change (private schools, programs feeding more than one school, etc.), but they end up being fairly accurate.

So it seems East will just reload next year? I sure hope for a East/GR final next season. It would be nice to have those two and Cloquet back in the semi-finals, purely from the standpoint of all the fans they bring, even if the semis were in the twin cities those three would embarrass the southern teams with all the fans they bring. Distance is no obstacle for real hockey fans.

east has NEVER had to play a playoff game outside of duluth, how do you know how well they travel, you just keep hoping for that northern final maybe someday it'll happen again, just not in the near future

Is this a cut and paste from last years post?
