With these two new commits, the 2012 BSM team has eight D1 commits (Besse, Labosky, Moore, Horton, Newhouse, Glover, Horn, Collins). And even with this many, they would not have won the tourney without great play by Quale in the net.
I looked uip Edina's team from last year and they have six already (Reno, Nelson, Anderson, Hurley, Malmquist, Nanne) with another four that are liley to end up somewhere (Munson, Fidler, Brauer, Masterman). So they wil probalby get at least eight from that team.
So my question is, is this kind of depth required to win a state tournment? Any fans out there who can tell me how many eventual D1 guys played on the State Champ teams of the last several years? How about you old guys who won way back in the day?

Off the top of my head, the most D-I players on any one team was 1996 Duluth East (11). The 92-94 Jefferson teams had about 9 every year. A few won it with 3 or 4, but I think most are in the 5-7 range.
Give me a day or two and I could dig it all up.
Johnny Austin was also at Blake. They were both playing varsity, but that had no effect on the 2012 BSM team. These stats for the past few champs would be interesting. Who were the 11 from 96 Duluth East? Dave Spehar, Nick Angell, Dylan Mills, Andy Wheeler, Ryan Coole, Adam Coole. Not sure if you counted Chris Locker who I know committed to Wisconsin but never officially played there....possibly most talented player on team was Pat Finnegan who at time was a freshman and in my opinion best HS hockey d man I have seen in last 20 years.

This mostly involved taking State Tourney rosters and running the names through hockeydb...that has reliability issues, especially as you go further back, but it's the best I can do in a pinch. Looking through it, I may also have a few programs listed as D-I when they weren't D-I yet.
I have 9 for 93 Jefferson: Nick Checco, Brian LaFleur, Dusty Anderson, Mike Crowley, Mike Skogland, Joe Bianchi, Mark Parrish, Mike Anderson, Josh DeWolf
Where did Ian Peterson play? Hockeydb doesn't have him playing D-I, but like I said, they miss some things. It doesn't look like Clymer, who was a freshman, was on the playoff roster. I count 18 players on that roster playing past HS.
96 East: Dave Spehar, Ted Suihkonen, Dylan Mills, Matt Mathias, Ryan Coole, Andy Wheeler, Kyle Kolquist, Jon Toftey, Adam Coole, Steve Suihkonen, Nick Anderson. Pat Gunderson also got in one D-I game, so we could technically say 12. Did not count Finnegan or Locker, and Angell, believe it or not, played JV as a sophomore. (Anderson too, mostly, but he was on the unused 4th line at State.)
