5-1 Edina after 2.

Shots 24-15 in favor of Edina.

East looked reasonably good in the first period, generating decent amounts of offensive zone time. The second, on the other hand, was pretty miserable.

The Hounds may have a goalie controversy brewing. Randolph is doing a lot of shuffling throughout the lineup. Looks like most everyone on the bench is getting a shot to prove their worth this week.

I might turn the sound off. 6-1 Edina now. Not in running time even though the announcer thinks it is. Edina killed off a 5 on 3 and scored right after becoming full strength.

7-1 now after a short handed goal. Now it's running time. :)

I'm not often critical of East's effort, in part because that's not my way of doing things, and in part because it's rare that it is poor. The 2nd and 3rd periods of this one were very poor. Disappointing. Not much to do but bounce back vs. Eastview tomorrow.

Well also going 1-9 on PP and having a 5 on 3. They had a few chances to try to keep it close. Well hopefully they can take care of Eastview tomorrow. We could be looking at the 1st losing season for an East team in 62 years..

Yes, the PP effort was especially bad, and un-East-like. Edina gave them every chance to at least make this semi-interesting.

I'm not going to sound the sub-.500 alarm yet, but these next 4 games are going to be key to how I feel about this team going forward. 3 of their losses have been to top-5ish teams. But it's games like these next few, against good but not great teams (Eastview, Hopkins, Denfeld, Rapids) that will make or break their season. Win at least 3 of those, and I'm feeling alright. Further struggles? Not so much.

Ouch East is taking a beating today.

Hill-Murray is 18-17-3 all time vs. Edina (including Edina East & West). They will now play twice in the next 11 days. These games will be a good test for HM to see if they can really compete with the best teams in the state. Their 4-3 loss to Lakeville North last week was actually encouraging. Lots of good hockey to come. HM has Edina twice, Wayzata, STA twice, WBL & Mahtomedi again still left on the schedule.

You can't count them out yet, but yes, they have been taking a beating on here. It maybe hasn't happened since the late 80's that I've heard people talk about East like this. They know nobody is going to feel sorry for them. They've been the Yankees of 7AA for a long time. Still time for Randolph to work some magic though. Never know in 7AA this year.

If we want a semi-recent parallel, East was 3-8-3 after 14 games in 02-03. Guess where they were come March?

Past results do not guarantee future outcomes, and it would be misguided to hold out hope for some sort of Randolph Miracle--he's a fine coach, but he's no god, and the players have to be the ones who get it done. In the meantime...patience.

Yeah St. Paul I ventured to Minneapolis today to check out the parking lot at the U of M for Ridder. Yes I have been to the lots at EP, STA and Tonka. EP is the best where Tonka is terrible to get to and out of and STA is just tough to get out of but nothing tops the ramp for Ridder. What a joke. Three lanes to get out and it's self serve with no attendants to hurry things along. As for the Schwans Cup I would also add it's the worst program I've ever seen. All teams from one division crammed on one stinking page of the program with no grade info for the players. Spendy tourney with a lot of hype for that crap. There was a good game tonight with the comeback for the Braves to win in OT. EP coasted late in the 3rd after taking the lead and ended up getting bit. Should be fun tomorrow with all the championship games but maybe the parking lot is better at SLP.

Kind of bummed we didn't get to see an Edina vs STAA game, was surprised by how the Cadets rolled past Tonka though.

The offense looks like its clicking now but its a long season...

Schwan Gold Division

With the Hounds going 0-3-0 in the Gold Division they will be relegated to Silver next season with this year's Silver Champion, Centennial, moving up to Gold next year.

The question is, will East play in the Silver bracket or will they do what other Gold teams have done and switch over to the Benilde tournament in SLP?

East went 0-3 in 07-08 and played in Silver the next year. My guess is they'll stay.
