no names please, but are they players that are first line or fourth line grinders. Planning on going and hoping it isnt the big namers.

I know of one kid for sure. There could be others but I only saw tweets about the one particular player. "Free ___" and stuff like that. Looking at the hub, he only has a couple points on the year so I don't think it'll make much of a difference

Yeah keep it a secret, cause we won't know when the game is played who isn't on the ice. Let's build up some anticipation as to who doesn't walk off that airplane.

I have a loy of respect for Hill Murray and I lot of respect for Lechner but i spoke of this last year ,there is no way Lechner is a better coach than Tom Vannelli. His taems are always disciplined and very very well coached and he doesnt get the props that he deserves

1 Hill kid has been tossed. 4 others being investigated. The other 4 sat out the Tartan game last night. Decision still to be made before HDM tomorrow. 1 player is a first/second line player, other 4 are 3rd-4th line guys. It will hurt their depth without them.

I guess that's one way to look at it but Lechner has proved in the past that it doesn't matter what line you are on or what you role is on the team, if you break the rules you're done. Can't say I've seen the same at STA. How is Vannelli's record vs. HM? On the HM hockey website it is showing that today's game is the 28th meeting between these 2 schools since 2001. I don't know how long each coach as been at their respective school but in that timeframe I know STA was racking up JV trophies before moving up to the big show last year and they have only managed SIX wins vs. HM since 2001. How does that make him a better coach? Just curious as to what your reasoning is behind stating that Vannelli is the better coach.

Those numbers are a little deceiving. It's 12-6-1 HM in the last 9 years. Still Bill Lechner and HM has the edge over some pretty talented Vannelli STA teams - 5 of which were Class A State Champs.

It is worth noting that St Thomas was 3-24 the year before the Vannellis took over and had won a total of 10 games in previous 3 years. Lechner, on the other hand, took over a program that had their last losing season in 1966. It's hard to compare who's a "better coach" simply based on their head to head records without taking that into account.
I have always been impressed by the discipline of Vannellis' players on the bench and ice and have specifically been unimpressed with Lechner's players for the same reasons. I, however, cannot comment on anything else comparatively between the two.

My sample size is admittedly quite small. I have seen very few games where they weren't playing against St Thomas, which likely matters understandably.

How are the boys on Randolph doing this year? I haven't caught a Raider game yet.

Good team. 7-0-2 in their last 9. I was at the WBL game last week. WBL had the edge until CDH took it to them in the 3rd outshooting them 13-6 and scoring 2. Its a relatively weak section and they have as good a chance as any to win it.

Another fun Hockey Day game. The Pioneers did a good job of imposing their physical style through much of the game, but STA won the special teams battle, and their finishers don't need much.

I said this a few times last year before STA lost to Eagan, and the same thing looks to be true this season: they don't seem to have a whole lot of answers for tough, deep, physical teams. This wasn't something they ever had to face in Class A, and it takes some adjustments to beat this sort of team with any consistency. They got a bit more physical as the game went on, and that helped some. But until they add a few more wrinkles, I'm going to be a bit skeptical of their ability to beat teams like Hill, Edina, and Wayzata. They have the talent, but I have yet to see the scheme.

I just can't draw conclusions like that from a game played outdoors. Ever since HDM has come out and the games were played outside the more offensive team has been the one that has been put at a disadvantage. In '08 Blaine played Roseau a lot closer than they would have on indoor ice, they only lost 1-0. A few years later Hermantown only lost 1-0 to Eden Prairie I believe. I agree STA had stretches of the game where they didn't look very good, but I can't believe that would necessarily carry over to a game played in normal conditions.
