The 1 seed will be nice as whoever gets the 2 I think will get Elk River in the semifinals. I know upsets can happen, but I feel confident 7AA is gonna come down to a Rapids vs East matchup on the last Thursday in February. Does anyone think on a realistic level that anyone has a legit shot from that 4-7 range to surprise and sneak into a 3 or even 2 seed?
It is Elk Rivers section this year.
You digging in Elliott's tackle box?

People might be underestimating the potential effect this new dorm may have on the hockey program. Canada (Thunder Bay, Fort Francis) is fertile recruiting ground for Marshall. Superior also puts out some good players. It may sound crazy, but I wouldn't overlook the Canadian kids. Larry Ross didn't. I think Marshall hockey people will not limit the pool of players to Northeastern Minnesota.

Interesting take. Marshall may become the Shattuck of MN HS hockey.
I still think Hermantown stands to potentially lose the most from this. If they don't make the move to AA soon, Marshall will exploit the "better competition/more exposure/18,000 fans at the X" angle and turn the excellent Hermantown youth association into their own personal feeder program.

Did you mean Shattuck of NORTHERN MN HS hockey?
Hermantown a feeder program for Marshall?
Rainier, I think Hibbing can take Hermantown this year and make it to the boring A tourney.
Have some faith in your team, you have the top D in the state and a host of other good players.

Hibbing's chances of beating Hermantown just got smaller as the two brothers that moved in last season are no longer with the team. Basically, Hibbing lost their #2 and #3 defenseman. That's the thing with transfers sometime: It's great when they leave somewhere else to come play for you, but don't be surprised when these nomads fly your coop. Like when Marshall lost Dow and McClure last season, which killed their chances of beating Hermantown.
I think Hermantown becoming a major feeder program for Marshall is a very real possibility. If Marshall puts the financial muscle behind the program that would allow any good player to get "scholarships", then they can offer a free private school education starting in 4th grade and only a 7 minute drive away is one of the best youth hockey associations in the state. I'm not sure there are many parents that would say no to that combo, especially when you add in the extra exposure and tougher schedule from being in AA.
Hibbing does have other players that can fill in, but I think the most likely candidates are sophomores, and as such they may not be impact players this season.
I have faith in my team, but I also have faith in yours; the Hawks are loaded.

This won't help Marshall if they can't get past East, Rapids and Elk River in 7AA

Never underestimate the power of deep pockets. I look forward to seeing how much they pay their hockey recruiting staff...I mean...their academic program recruiters. This year, give me Elk River.

No, they went to Marshall.
Just kidding, I have no idea. I doubt they went to Hermantown, as neither of them are as good as the Hawks' top three defenseman.

Looks like the Toppers are reaching across the harbor to get their talent this year. I see three former Superior players on this years' roster; two freshman who were very good first year bantam players last season and a junior who was good for the Spartans' varsity last season.
Who knows how much the freshmen will be able to help out this season, but the junior should certainly add a little offensive punch. With Krenzen, Hansen, Liberty, and Stauber, I think the Toppers' defense certainly goes four deep.
They should for sure put out one strong line, but after that will be determined how fast some of the frosh can chip in. No idea how good the goaltending could be.
I'd put them at #4 in 7AA.
