What went south tonight?grindiangrad-80 wrote:Just had the pleasure of watching the annual beating by Hermantown. 5-0.
Another major penalty in the offensive zone.
Sounds like a good game...rainier wrote:Hibbing beats Cloquet 3-2. Shots 25-22 Hibbing.
Not sure exactly. Pretty even play as far as shots and pressure. Hermantown made the most of their chances. They had more quality scoring chances. Herms goalie was solid. I dont know. The Mattson line wasnt on the ice much in the 3rd. Not at all for about 10 minutes. Adams boarding call behind the Hermantown net was not very helpful.northwoods oldtimer wrote:What went south tonight?grindiangrad-80 wrote:Just had the pleasure of watching the annual beating by Hermantown. 5-0.

It was a great game. Cloquet scored on a 6 on 4 with 23 seconds left. Tense final moments.elliott70 wrote:Sounds like a good game...rainier wrote:Hibbing beats Cloquet 3-2. Shots 25-22 Hibbing.
It was a very good game. CEC had their chances to win. Hibbing earned the W tonight. Congratulations to Hibbing...Scotty P. is quality that is for sure.elliott70 wrote:Sounds like a good game...rainier wrote:Hibbing beats Cloquet 3-2. Shots 25-22 Hibbing.
This.Immigrant Fan wrote:Yep, Rapids looked like a hockey team in the first period. They did not match the effort or intensity in the second. Adams' major can be called Boarding, or Roughing, or whatever, but the truth is that he got a major for Immaturity and Stupidity. It was a bad penalty and could have been worse - both the penalty called and the impact on the Hermantown player.
It is frustrating to see Rapids keep getting these penalties. What do those cheap shots and unnecessarily rough play get them?! It seems like they should figure it out. If they are POed at somebody, why don't they try to win the game rather than "retaliate" and give them the game. I feel like I am starting to see other teams trying to provoke reactions out of Rapids.
Whatever the case, yes it looked like they quit after the major. The Hain-McGlaughlin-Miller line still showed some spark, but everyone else acted like they had other places to be.
I fear some character issues may be appearing for GR.
GR fans on this forum were complaining about those character issues last year when they were talking about not coming out to skate like they meant it as opposed to just showing up at the rink and etc. The people who pointed it out were ridiculed for it if I remember correctly. That kid who wanted to play and would or that kid who would meander down the ice to take the puck into the corner without passing it or shooting it because it seemed like he did not want one of his line mates to score. I have only seen a couple of their games this year and am very impressed with their youngsters but not so much with the older kids. I think that if GR is going to have any chance at all Rapids needs to bench their seniors and give their young kids a chance to save the season.TheHockeyDJ wrote:This.Immigrant Fan wrote:Yep, Rapids looked like a hockey team in the first period. He has been moved around the lineup all season long.GoBigorGoHome wrote:Hey, Sats, did LVN finally move the freshman out of the top six? A good player, but definitely not top six on that squad.
That would be a pretty extreme reaction to last night. There really isn't a bigger platform, at this point in a season, to learn that penalties/immaturity kill momentum and cost you games. If they cant learn from the Hermantown game, then I'd see more merit in that. Still a talented team from what I've seen/heard.Wet Paint wrote:GR fans on this forum were complaining about those character issues last year when they were talking about not coming out to skate like they meant it as opposed to just showing up at the rink and etc. The people who pointed it out were ridiculed for it if I remember correctly. They won't learn from last night if their history is any indication.SFA1992 wrote:That would be a pretty extreme reaction to last night. Hermantown clobbered them. Could have been 10 - 0 game easily.pekyman wrote:HT finally got the shutout!rainier wrote:Not quite.boblee wrote: Grand Rapids has lost to Hermantown by more than two three times. Two just happen to be two years in a row. Rapids won 3 of 4 meetings prior to that.
